...That being said I think that there are ways in which meetings can go well. I have met two LPSG members at this point and I had nothing but positive experiences. But then they pretty much knew what to expect.
Yup, I've met up with two LPSGers too, and it's been great. But then, we were all honest and up front about ourselves from the beginning.

It's good to be cautious, and this story does serve as a good warning, but the "internet-as-demon" idea has been beaten to death. The only time we ever hear about an internet meeting, it's always something awful along these lines. Meetings and infatuations go wrong in real life as well. Remember the Jenny Jones show, where a gay guy revealed that he had a crush on his straight friend, and later the straight friend killed him? Does this mean that all straight men are looking for a gay man to kill? Does it mean that being on TV makes you a killer? That the internet is responsible, is just as ridiculous of an idea. The internet may provide the vehicle for people to come to a bad end, but when it does, there's got to be an underlying issue. People don't suddenly become killers, predators, or molesters, from sitting down at a keyboard. Bad things aren't confined to the internet. On the good side, there 1,000s of people meeting via the internet every day, for a variety of reasons. There are whole industries based on this idea, ranging from just plain sexual hookups (gay.com, AdultFriendFinder), to marriage (match.com, eharmony.com), with countless happy meetings daily. If there wasn't a significant degree of success with these, they wouldn't continue to thrive. The internet CAN be a dangerous place, but have you taken a look at the "real" world?

If we use the same rules on the net as we use in real life meeting on the net can be as good a way as any to meet.

Very good Point S.P., thanks for that insight.

that was hilarious....I am all laughed out...I will make sure I re-read it tomorrow so I can laugh some more...the computer is a source of entertainment...well for me it is....it is not a vehicle for meeting people...I meet people at the gym, clubs, pool halls, shopping, the park, museums, bowling...swimming, fishing etc..live interaction...... face to face ........not over the net...the net is all one big game and that should be kept in mind...

i admit i laughed too when mary was revealed, but you still have to feel bad when the one young guy died and the two middle age nutjobs got to keep living. although bryan, may he rest in peace, seemed like a bit of an ass as well. nevermind, it is the comedy of manners for our time.

That story is unnerving to say the least. I was just asked to take a trip to Macon, GA by a person on here for a threesome, and I felt awkward about it in the beginning... so now I've decided not to go after reading this.

Some people in this world are unpredictable, unreadable and just downright sick

That's exactly what I try to do online.

If someone meets me in real life, they'll find that I'm the same person they've gotten to know already.

I might stutter or fish around for words sometimes, though.

Like everything else in life, it is whatever you create for yourself.

The Internet is just a mirror and shows a reflection of real life in real time. The two are one and the same. Having said that i know of many members meeting and having nice things to say about their encounters. So some really nice things happen too. I choose to reflect on the positive side of this.

I think what I find rather psychopathic is the fact this guy thought he was actualkly going to have a shot at this teen. I remember when an Executive Vice President for Utilicorp picked up a 15 year old online, flew to Florida to "hook up" with her, got off the plane and was greeted by your friendly FBI decoy operation team.

Unbelievable.

I read about that in the news awhile back......

Barrett was the only one being truthful about his age and other things.....
He shouldn't have been the one to end up dead.

Very sad.....

So... because some jealous psycho shoots a guy who's been talking to the same hard-up-for-attention girl that he's been talking to... that means it's a bad idea to meet people from LPSG? It always makes me laugh when people so quickly jump to connect any anecdote to reinforce some paranoid social stereotype... like: online romance is a bad idea. The online component was almost completely incidental to this whole story. If this girl were someone the guy had met in person who was his own age, and she then became involved with one of his friends, the story could have played out exactly the same way.
