thinner hair looks thinner when short because you can see more of the scalp. with longer hair, it helps hide the skin more, so you don't notice it as much, but when it's short, all the skin is visible so it's much more noticeable

He had a stress-induced skin condition that caused him to break out all over his upper body and head and rapidly lose hair. It's growing back though. He made a Youtube video about it.
I'm not sure how I feel about the slit, but it's not for me. If it makes him feel good, then I love it for ihim.
