What do you think about the new chat room? Any comments, suggestions, or ideas?
kenny: im always in favor of a chat room option on a forum however i havent use this one yet because i still dont have java.
provided it doesnt turn into some sort of live hook up room
The chat is good!
The only thing I miss is a button to go straight to a person's profile page, but that's not essential.
Yeah, a profile link might encourage people to actually fill in something about themselves.
Otherwise I've used the chat a few times and it seems pretty good as long as it stays relevant to LPSG. I'm on Mac and I downloaded FireFox (on recommendation from Mindseye) because the Java in IE, Netscape, and Safari are pretty sucky. Firefox works amazingly well.
Spent a while in the room last night. Very pleasant experience. Worked well and has some nice features, but the profile thingie would be nice, but certainly isn't a deal breaker!
I wish the window would blink when a message is recieved.
Yeah, that or an audio ding-sound or something...
I like the new chat format but I sure do wish I could change the color of that damned blue bar where we enter our message.
Hard on these old eyes.
I must not be using it correctly. I dont know really how to use it to the best advantage.
I guess they need to turn up their sound Dee. I hear the "ding" sound whenever a new entry pops up.
The topics seem less outside the pants and more as a redundant carry over from the
forums. Im huge, youre huge, the Titanic was huge. Though cognition becomes an
insufficiency to a basic conversation.
Maybe as with the forums the chat could also host a Etc, etc. section.
I've been accused of living there, so I think that reveals my attraction to the chat room. Recognizing some of the names, from having read their postings, makes chatting more interesting and it's been a pleasure learning more about the members through chat.
My window has audio to check, but I've been unable to get any results from my check mark. Audio verble would be real cool. It's been said that when the newness wears off, the activity will simmer down, but I'm hoping not.

Yeah, it amazes me that these sorts of blunders still occur.
First, the black type on a dark blue background isn't just an age thing, it 's a human perception thing. It's difficult.
Second, the principles of human-computer interaction aren't new. Men are more likely to be color blind than women and shades of blue are those that men have the most difficulty with, so the lack of contrast in the input field is troublsome to a potentially large percent of this audience.
Wow, that work stuff actually comes in handy
