I know, and what's worse is the citizens wanted this ban. It seems Orlando is more interested in sweeping their homeless numbers under the rug than actually helping them. God forbid any of those self-serving asshats ever become homeless.

It's because they did it at a public park. There's a law in Orlando that says you need to obtain a permit to do such a thing if there's more than 25 people in attendance. So technically they were breaking the law, although given the circumstances being arrested for it does seem rather extreme.

Yes, and if you read further down you'll see that that law was passed in 2006 specifically to stop this group's activities.

I read that. But I was just answering parr's question. I'm with everyone else on this thread in thinking that the actions of law enforcement in Orlando towards this issue were asinine.

Well, Achtung! Citizens of Orlando. Stop what you are doing and kneel before the image of the mighty Lord and Master Mickey! He knows all. And He knows feeding the homeless only encourages them. Therefore, both right and left hands will be cut off of any persons planning a future event to feed the homeless. Corporate 'Mericuh has spoken. Now it is decreed by the State Police that everyone go home and watch Cluster Fox News!

THERE WILL BE A POP QUIZ!

Finally a return to the good old days.

"Are there no prisons?" asked Scrooge.
"Plenty of prisons," said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
"And the Union workhouses?" demanded Scrooge. "Are they still in operation?"
"They are. Still," returned the gentleman, "I wish I could say they were not."
"The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?" said Scrooge.
    "Both very busy, sir."
"Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course," said Scrooge. "I'm very glad to hear it."

And what about that part on that Alabama mayor not letting in FEMA trailers? Not only does it seem to be extremely heartless, but pissing off a Federal agency (and a disaster-relief one at that!) would seem to be pretty idiotic as well.

Add to this list the states, and cities that bought homeless people one-way tickets to Hawaii to dump them on the tropical state.

and you wonder why i chose to live in California? it is as if most of the states in Dixie are determined to destroy local and state government by simply acting out as if they are Torquemada and their mandate is like the grand inquisition of the 1300-1400 a.d. era.
and Cuddler , thanks for the quote from Dickens' Christmas Carol. that is one the best parts of the story and it explains why Charles Dickens, a leading socialist of the time, would be reviled today in the US and assumed to be an Obama buddy ( and he probably would be, at that).
