ohhh....somethings you shouldn't 're-make'. I wouldn't go see this, simply because, I liked those old black and whites and in my humble opinion no one can replace the original guys. Different time back then, different humor too. I loved the 'who's on first' joke. Mmm...was that the Three Stooges?

Great thread. Thanks for all the links. Back in Indiana, they had this pizza place -- I think it was a pizza place, I was very little --anyway they had televisions scattered around with episodes of the Three Stooges playing or Looney Tunes. I remember thinking it was the greatest place ever.

Cal, let us know if you like the new Stooges film. I'm not sure I want to see it. I really love the old b/w shorts, but I love them in the context in which they were made -- depression-era, WWII, pre-social/cultural revolutions of the 60's and 70's. The old shorts, in addition to providing senseless slapstick humor, represent a window into the expectations, aspirations and concerns of three everyday schmoes from our grandparents' generation. I fear that the charm of the original Stooge films, which to me is grounded in the trio's perpetually ill-conceived but well-intentioned responses to the world around them, will be lost in the hands of today's comedy screenwriters. I'd be curious to know your take after you see the film.

I'm still waiting for Mo, Larry and Curly's franklin mint plates to appreciate in value...then again do not care if they don't. Love them guys. Along with the Little Rascals and Alf Alfa :) :)

I grew up watching Abbot and Costello and the 3 Stooges on the weekends. The only time i was not happy was when the Stooges were showing some of their work from the later part of their career.

I loved Curly, liked Shemp but was not a huge fan of the Joe 1 or 2

I'm sure the plates are good at least for whacking guys on the head. You need a dubbed-in sound effect, though, for it to make an appropriate "Clang!" sound.

From what I have seen of Curly Joe in the feature movies, he seems to have been merely inert and useless. Joe Besser, on the other hand, stank up the shorts to a degree that one would not have thought possible.

Why soitenly! o_O
Grew up on those guys watching TV after school.
I loved the bio-pic that was shown on TV in 2000.

I think I saw that one (the picture on the IMDB page doesn't correspond to the movie that I remember, but the cast list looks familiar). It was really not bad!
