Tineye - Image Search Engine

I found this site just a couple of days ago and found it very interesting.

All you do is put in the URL of a picture and it does some weird technical jazzy thing and comes up with where that picture can be found elsewhere on the internet.

For example, I put in a portrait of a recognizable figure, and instantly got back near too 800 results, showing where that picture pops up around the internet, and also showing the picture in various stages of photoshop.


However, I must point out the ToS of the site clearly states "Submission of pornographic or illegal files is strictly prohibited."

Just thought it was quite a weird and wonderful thing.

There was anothere thread here about it, recently. It's in beta, only, and I have been added to the "Waiting list". Am really curious to use it, though.

I don't know what beta is, but it holds 487 million pictures to choose from.

I did see the original thread claiming that it can help identify pornstars, which isn't true unless they have clothes on. And let's face it, if someone puts a pornstar in their gallery, they don't usually have clothes on :tongue:

I think a version of this that contains adult pictures could be useful in identifying fakes.

I was seconds away from suggesting that. There are other image search engines but I've never used one so I don't know how good of a job they do.

I mean can you cut and paste a pic and find it that way, or does it have to be from an URL?

A "beta" is a "test version" of a program; it means it is not yet fully complete or ready for public consumption.

I was really hoping to use it to help 'convict' some image theives I know of. . .plus I wanted to see if someone else was using MY pics!!! Since it's a search engine, I don't understand why they wouldn't let you search pornographic or copyrighted images; it's not like your using them.

Oh, I see!

I know it's silly they don't let porn pics on, but I'm sure there will be another similar version made which will allow pornographic images... then there will be a worldwide outing of fakers. :smile:
