Ok, for some reason I was thinking the video I was looking for was the Big Screen version of Tales from the Darkside. But upon further research I think I am wrong. There is an early nineties horror movie with a scene of a black actor in nothing but his underwear sitting in what looks to be an electric chair of sorts. Huge package on the actor! When he gets a jolt, his huge bulge bounces like crazy. Anyone know the movie this was in? The original video box art even has a pic of this scene on the back, showing the huge bulge and all.

OK, I watched the movie ... which is really rather good, apart from the fact that the "social message" contained in each story could scarcely be rammed down your throat any more obviously....

Anyway: the guy in both photos above is Lamont Bentley, despite the differing devices on which he is seen in the two photos.

He actually appears wearing just shorts or underwear from 74 minutes into the film through to 86 minutes into the film. For the first two of those minutes, he's in white shorts, and thereafter in the blue underwear seen above. You actually see his package moving about much more when he is placed on a spinning device that needs to be ratcheted up... and that is where the "jolts" come in. The chair sequence actually lasts only from 83 minutes into the film through to 86 minutes in, and is a stationary chair in a sensory deprivation chamber.

Hmmm, well, 140 people have looked so far and no suggestions have been forthcoming yet. So I'll add a little something to bump this thread...

Of course, there was a swathe of "electric chair"-themed movies released between 1987 and 1989...
Shocker
[http://www.itsonlyamovie.co.uk/cover%20scans/shocker.jpg],
Prison
[http://www.itsonlyamovie.co.uk/cover%20scans/prison.jpg],
The Chair
[http://kultvideo.org/img/prodotti/d925i.jpg] and,
my favorite in terms of its homoerotic cover art, Shadow of Death (a.k.a. Destroyer) [http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13/zarpafilms2/sodeath.jpg].
However, as far as I can recall, none of those featured any black actors on the chair (although my recollections of "The Chair" are pretty hazy)...
There was also a somewhat similar scene in The Serpent and the Rainbow [http://www.stars-masculines-nues.com/billpullman01.jpg], but again, not featuring a black actor.

Is it possible that the video in question was not a "movie" at all, but rather an anthology of episodes from one of the several TV horror series being produced at that time?
Volume 1 of Tales from the Crypt, for example, has a possible contender in the episode "The Man Who Was Death" [http://www.scifilm.org/tv/talescrypt/talescrypt1-1.html]... but I'm really not familiar enough with any of the TV series to comment further...

Are there any other details you might be able to remember, and in terms of your viewing habits, how mainstream/obscure is the film likely to be?

"Shocker" had Italian-American Mitch Pileggi (of X-Files fame).
There may have been sequels to "Shocker" ?

Another possibility: I've never seen it, but The Horror Show aka House III came out in 1989 and it's centered around a serial killer (Brion James) who comes back to haunt his arresting officer (Lance Henriksen) after his "execution" by electric chair elevates him to a higher plane of existence...or something to that effect.

There were no sequels to Shocker... and the late Brion James in House III was again a white guy, and never seen in his underwear, as far as I recall.

The movie is called Tales From The Hood. I was 14 when I saw this movie and I remember the exact scene you're talking about.
You are quite right... and I should definitely look very embarrassed at this point...

Why? Because the image below is the one I just scanned off the video box to Tales from the Hood from my own shelf.

1

EDIT: It was (at least if the credits attached to images online are correct - and I'm not convinced that they are) the debut screen performance by the late über-hottie Lamont Bentley [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamont_Bentley], who died in a car accident last year aged just 31.

*If* it's him... the guy on the right in this still is definitely Lamont Bentley in Tales of the Hood... and I think we are most probably dealing with two different actors here. I'll check out the movie in the next day or two and report back for sure.
