Ok now we all have heard or seen Oprah's other shows on "Living on the Down Low" topic with the famous female black author, but really does she need to do another?

Today Oprah is showing how a woman sued her husband and WON $12.5 million dollars and she sent him into hiding she claims for six years.

I am taping it because I would like to know what judge gave a woman $12.5 million for being bisexual. I mean that is beyond crazy to me, unless he gave her an STD. I guess if he gave her an STD I could see where this shows direction might be going. Of course all the commercials and the web site are very vague on todays show.

Has anyone seen this couple in the news?

But if Oprah is going to have one show after another about crucifying a bisexual husband she needs to leave TV now, not at the end of the year. America does not need anymore lawyers inventing new lawsuits.

Where were all the bisexual men when I was dating? I could not find any who wanted to have kids..............

(getting off my soapbox now)

Let's all try and have a good weekend

I watched most of that portion of the O show today. Apparently her husband was cheating on her and gave her HIV which developed into AIDS. From the part I watched, it didn't seem to be the bisexual element that led to the lawsuit - it was getting AIDS. And from what I gather, the husband initially blamed her for giving him HIV. So I can see her getting settlement. Yikes, hey?

I did not mean to offend anyone with the Oprah post. But Oprah was running massive commercials advertising this show more then most and it was making me mad.

I have friends from grade school who are indeed bisexual. They are married and there wives do not know. With that said they do not cheat on their wives but I would HATE for any of them to tell their wives what they have done in their Past and then get sued if that became the case.

I finally watched the show this morning as I taped it and indeed this woman got AIDS from her husband two months after their honeymoon. He became sick she says right on their honeymoon. Then after she got sick the husband told everyone, friends, and both their families she gave it to him. She sued him for seven years won and he file bankruptcy so she never received a penny. She is currently pregnant with a different mans baby while having HIV. This was why she came on Oprah now ten years later.

So I am sorry for being up the post if it upset you.
You are a very nice person and I always enjoy reading your posts here on the site. I just wanted to know other peoples thoughts on the show if they were going to see it.

I don't think bisexual has anything to do w/this at all. Oprah started the topic and let the participants speak for themselves. This is def. not the first show to speak about being on the down low. I've seen other shows about this esp after the woman that wrote Stella and Her Groove found out her husband was gay.
I don't know why you're so upset w/Oprah as opposed to the lying cheating husbands these women married. Perhaps in a diff place momma woulda taken her gun and settled the score and in my mind rightfully so. ANY f'n guy that is HIV positive and marries a woman and gives it to her deserves what he gets, yes the woman should be careful too but in love you want to believe the other person and personally, I'd hate to live in a world where I had to doubt everything about the perosn I was in love with. Liars are liars and cheaters are cheaters. A married man cheating on his wife w/another man is just as bad as a married man cheating on his wife w/another woman. The sex of the other doesn't matter. It breaks the trust and the bond that marriage is supposed to build. Just my opinion.

PSS that woman got pregnant w/a man that KNEW she was HIV positive and he ventured into that WITH her on their doctors advice. She should be allowed to have other kids if she wants to and doctors think it would be ok. She should be allowed the joy of starting a new family if the kids can be born ok. It's NOT her FAULT she's HIV.

she won a lot of fucking money because her husband was on the dl? are you fucking serious? there's two main issues that need to be addressed:

1) we, as a country, need to stop making people who are homo- and bisexual feel so bad they must hide who they truly are

2) our legal system is so fucked up that you can sue someone because they're not straight?

1) No one is making anyone hide. This guy LIED. What is so hard to understand. He married a woman and lied about who he was.

2) He wansn't sued because he wasn't straight. He was sued because he LIED and changed forever a woman's life by giving her a disease she could die from.

yah, i re-read as to why he was sued. i do agree with that.

and how can you say that our culture does not force anyone to hide? look at those teens that recently committed suicide because they were gay. why did they take their lives? because, as a society, we do not accept gay men for the most part. so yes, he was forced to hide who he truly was. that doesn't excuse him for being a douche and giving her AIDS.

on a semi-related note, it amazes me how many people still get AIDS these days. i understand older peoples having AIDS; they weren't as educated about it back then. but i work in the pharmacy, and i see a lot of younger peoples picking up AIDS medications. and that truly scares me

Surferboy the teens commiting suicide are a different story. Teenagers who don't have fully formed brains physically or emotions are a completely different story than a grown man who's bi and hiding it and infecting someone w/AIDS. Trust me I feel bad for those teens who cannot see another way out. I was completely like them as a teen. Even if I had contemplated suicide I didn't. I have NO sympathy for a man that knowingly infects a woman w/AIds and has to pay thru the nose.

On a related note there was a study published the other day that showed teens were more likely to use condoms than older folks. I'm glad.

but it is related. why was the man on the dl? because he was afraid to come out of the closet. why was he afraid to come out of the closet? because generally, we as a society, do not tolerate homosexuality. it's sad. it's fucked up. but it's the reason why you have teens killing themselves and grown ass men creepin on the dl. if we were more accepting of gays and bisexuals, he wouldn't have married a woman and gone sleeping around with men behind her back.

Surfer don't give this man carte blanche to marry a woman because MAYBE he felt he couldn't come out. I'm sorry. It's 2010 and any bi person should know it's not ok to marry someone who doesn't know this about them. It's just wrong. Alot of f'd up things happen in the real world but if y're bi and leaning towards gay you're only making your own world worse by marrying somone who doesn't know it. People need to be responsible for themselves despite how they feel the world sees them. I'm sorry I can't give you a 'go' on this one!

why are you arguing with me when we're on the same side? i'm not saying it was cool for him to marry a woman because he's scared to come out as bi or gay. i was, however, presenting the argument as to why peoples like him do what they do
