I am surprised considering they seem to be going through a bad patch last year. I have a feeling it's more of a Lance idea than toms.
I wouldn't be so sure. Tom seems pretty intent on rushing through all of life's heteronormative stages as quickly as possible. Can't say I blame him, really, but I do find it pretty dull.

3) because Tom traumatically lost his father at a young age and so he realizes all too well that life can end at any moment, and so he’s chosen not to spend any time waiting to do what he wants, for better or worse
