It does seem his management are just a bit too eager to try and show he has range beyond Marvel films, and they keep grabbing at the wrong projects to do this. I'm also not totally convinced he actually does have the range to pull it off.
Also, and I say this as a Brit - they really need to stop casting British actors to play Americans.
As one of the reviews says, between this and "The Devil All the Time," Holland needs to stay away from contemporary American fiction adaptations. Hell his accent is one of the big reasons of his appeal along with that personality and body, same with Chris Hemsworth.
I get it - he's a 24 year old who, because of Peter Parker people still think of him as a overly nice teenager, he's doing movies in which he plays an actual adult who gets to act out and take drugs and screw around. We get it mate, you can and do get your dick wet.
He just needs to choose more carefully. It's not a uncommon problem - Hemsworth, Jackman, Cavill all took a long time to find films outside their superhero roles that worked and they still don't a bunch of the time. He'll get there, it just takes time is all.
