Top or bottom posting

What’s the correct etiquette when quoting a previous post? The reply followed by the quote, or the quote followed by the reply?

A long time ago I remember some people in newsgroups and mailing lists getting annoyed with people doing it the wrong way around. I access this site on my phone mostly so the location of my reply depends how cooperative it’s being and how fat-fingered I am at the time.

I worry way too much about these things.

I always leave the quote on top so that it's clear and easy to see what/who I'm responding to.

It just makes sense to me that way.

What TnJ said. It makes sense to me, since you immediately see what I'm posting in response to.

Usually on the top unless I forget. Then I’ll bottom post. And then I’m too lazy to cut and paste it back where I want it.

Details count. I worry about some boring ass stuff sometimes. Then again, that’s partly what has made me the brilliant, moderately highly paid, highly regarded professional I am today!
