People are always respectful and deferential towards me, with or without the beard. Though the compliments on my appearance have increased since my beard reached the "big" stage.

I've tried it at times and it generally worked well for me. I generally look very boyish for my age (45), which can be good for my dating/sex life, but not my professional life. The beard helped to offset that, while also generating some new attention on the dating/sex side.

Unfortunately, the beard and mustache have become 100% white in the last couple of years (odd since I don't have a grey hair on my head or body). The old/young combo just looks odd, so I've given up the beard periods.

Since turning 24, a couple years ago, I started just maintaining a trim beard, and I think I get a bit more respect. But I'm half filipino and without a beard I look like I'm just out of high school. Earlier this year I shaved for a job interview and my girl said that I looked like an angry lesbian. Facial hair really changes how a man looks and is perceived by others.

I have that baby-face syndrome without the beard and I thought it would be the same with one, so I grew it out during October and November. It doesn't get that thick or long when grown out, perhaps almost an inch, and the hairs like to pick certain spots as to where they grow and the itching is worthy of being a torture technique the government can employ on terrorists.

However, while it was grown out, I definitely noticed a difference in how people interacted with me, whether I knew them or didn't. People I knew thought I looked more mature with my so-called beard, and I didn't get carded one whole time when I went to a bar lol. I shaved it recently but I think I may have to include it in my look now. I wouldn't mind looking 27 instead of 19 these days.

When I decided to grow out my facial hair, I definitely noticed people treated me differently.

I think I was getting more respect with my beard because it made me seem more masculine. I guess with the beard, I'm less feminine than the stereotypical gay man, which makes me more respectable to our still slightly heternormative society.

I have gotten more romantic and sexual attention as well. There is something about having a beard that makes me feel good, which gives me more confidence and probably makes me more appealing.

Beards = a good thing (Y)

I have never seen my face without facial hair since puberty. Some times I fuck up my trimming job, and it's super short and I feel sooooo weird and not masculine at all.... I'll always have facial hair especially since I have been shaved bald for 15 years now.

For me it's too hot in Hawaii to have facial hair. I have not had a beard in a long... long... long... time. If the price of razor blades keep going up I may consider it again.

Being from Hawaii, never had facial hair. Way to hot and humid but since moving to Los Angeles I have let it grow and I do notice I get hit on a lot more, especially by females.
