Gosling is very handsome but he does NOT look like Ken whatsoever. He's UNCONVENTIONALLY handsome. Ken should have been played by a convetionally handsome actor/model like Trevor, Matthew Noszka or Pierson Fode. It's not like this movie is going to require superb acting skills either.

They were obviously going for name recognition when it came to casting

Agreed. Also, with it already having such a start-studded cast, I think having someone like Tevor, Noszka, or Fode (forgot about him) wouldn't have changed anything. It could have even peaked stronger interest to see an "unknown".

I don't know about that, but I doubt nearly as many people are seeing this movie specifically because of Gosling compared to those who want to see Margot Robbie as Barbie or just like the idea of the movie in general.

I don't know, Margot Robbie is kind of the opposite of a box office draw. She headlined 2 of the 5 biggest box office flops last year and even her superhero stuff has flopped (Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad) despite Harley Quinn being one of the most popular characters in comics.

I think in the case of Barbie it's mostly the aggressive marketing and the brand itself doing the heavy lifting.
