It's a difficult time to be a republican - what with all the in-fighting underneath the "Big Tent" (we are, after all, coming out of the era of the "big-government conservative" who was also the "compassionate conservative"). Is Michael Steele a leader? Does Rush Limbaugh represent the party? Do spending "freezes" work in times where most economists are calling for some form of spending stimulus?

And if you're a social con, it's even worse. - Iowa, the heartland, is now, as of this morning, allowing same-sex marriage (Yes, I know many of you on a big dick site do not consider yourselves "social cons", but they are a part of the apparatus in your party that sets a chunk of the platform agenda. And it's part of the current conservative philosophy).

And from all indications, the Dow will continue to rise in the coming months, the banks will loosen up & begin to more freely lend again, the state stimulus packages will kick in --- and people will attribute this burgeoning recovery and economic greasing of the wheels directly to President Obama (not to mention this spectacular European tour that is giving the United States a fresh, renewed world respect.... with bold, new policies that seem to be forthcoming with Russia and China).

In a sense, conservatives are not "battling" political ideas with liberals here. They are wrestling with and re-evaluating their own political awareness. They are boxing with shadows for awhile until some leader comes along and inspires (like Obama has truly done with the dems).
