ive never taken testosterone but it seems to be prescribed alot now. Personally I dont think its a great idea to pump up the general public on testosterone but if you need it thats a diff story. My levels have always been average to lowish never optimal. I hear TRT gives a person a great sex drive and mood. Any experiences or thoughts on using it? And is it possible to cycle it for say like 5-10 years? Im not someone who wants to be on it forever i just want to temporarily optimize my levels to see what its like.

I’ve been on it for about five years. I’ve done shots and pellets. Back on shots now, 200 mg once a month. There is a definite peak in mood and sex drive a few days after getting a shot that slowly declines throughout the month. We found out my levels were extremely low when trying to get pregnant the first time.

I was diagnosed years ago with pretty low T, so have been prescribed various types over the years, including creams and shots. I currently take 0.8cc every two weeks. T has an effect on lots of other hormones in the body, so it's important to have it be working at normal levels. Doing it every two weeks, I don't sense quite the extremes that Cooper mentions, but in the days after my shot, I do feel more capable and "powerful" I guess, with a little more aggressiveness that I must monitor.

My stepson had various problems with his mood and approach to life. He surprisingly also was found to have low T. Now everything is going SO well for him, now that his levels are correct.

So I can't speak to your original point about it being over-prescribed for guys. I do know that those of us that have been tested with Low-T need it desperately. :)

I taken it as a shot once a week for the past 10+ years. During my evaluation for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), I had lots of blood drawn. One of those was for testosterone. My doctor said that those that are low in testosterone and have panic attacks find benefit from raising it back into proper range. It helped me for that. My sex drive increased as well.

I would not take it unless your t levels were very low. As you know everything has a side effect. Can cause heart issues among other things.

I just started TRT. The Dr. told me I can get off of it anytime I decide to (under medical supervision) but once I experience the effects I won’t want to get off it. I’ve only been on it a short time so the effects I’ve noticed are minimal - mostly a bit of increase in energy and motivation ( which could be a placebo effect) - but I was told not to expect any real change until I’ve been on it a couple of months. I figure that if I like the results, I’ll stick with it long term. If I don’t get enough results to justify the risks, I’ll work with the Dr. to taper off and get off of it.

I hope it goes well for you. What you mention is exactly what I experience. Near the end of my two weeks, I have less confidence. I have more trouble facing a difficult task. I lack motivation and drive. Rarely, if I'm needing more than usual, I can experience unexplained depression. Then I take the shot and for the next week, I can tackle anything and have no trouble facing stuff that daunted me the week before. It's gotten so that sometimes I will simply schedule difficult stuff for "the right week". lol. I will often have more morning wood right after the shot, but this is not all that consistent....

Thanks for the commentary on this all.
I am thinking about starting myself. Am only 37, very active and work out 4-5 days a week with a pretty good diet all around but my testosterone levels the last two times I have had it checked were 220 and 203. I understand this to be pretty low even if I was 60 years old.
Experience mood swings, trouble focusing like I used to, trouble sleeping or staying a sleep at times and sometimes I just don’t feel like my erection quality or overall penis sensitivity is where it should be.
Interested to here more on all your experiences over time.
Thanks

Hi, you're plenty old enough to be experiencing low T; it really has little to do with age. It's just one of hundreds of things that be a little off in a body. ;). For instance, yesterday and today, I can feel it being low. It caused me to go look at my calendar and hmm, sure enough, my shot is there for me to give myself tomorrow. Now before, I would have just chalked this up to "mood swings", unexplainable normal variations. It's nothing very strong, but a little off. It was worse before I started getting treatment. As long as you do it under doctor's care, there's not much chance of bad down-sides, and your quality of life can go WAY up. My stepson went from being miserable to being a happy, well-adjusted man of 40. My transformation was far more subtle but still a wonderful improvement.

You obviously have someone checking it; what do they suggest?

I have been on TRT for probably 15 years. My levels were down below 100. I give myself and injection of .75cc or 150mg every 2 weeks. keeps my levels up over 400. I feel amazing on it. As my endocrinologist put it, "My testes had done their job" It is wonderful that Drs are now testing men for Low T, as it can cause a myriad of problems including heart disease, weight gain, depression, ect. And yes, the testicles do shrink. A very small price to pay for overall good health.

this might be what i am looking for. I seem to have lost my mojo. I still fuck a lot and can manage 4 or 5 ejacs a session, though I now take Monday as a non sex day. But I seem to have lost the desire unless its initiated. I love and am attracted to both my girlfriend and my "side chick" (i think thats what the styles herself as) but I'm not ragingly horny and almost never get a spontaneous boner. I feel somewhat fogged most of the time and have lost some of the edge I used to have, have feelings of being overwhelmed and am not the alfa stud i was in the 80s when I was a teen ager.

Once a month?? I do weekly shots and I feel that keeps blood levels way more stable. I am 100mg/week though.

Curious what some of your TRT levels have been. Like your age and level. Mine is low but I dont know how low is enough to really consider it.

You will not be able to "cycle it"....
once your body needs it, it needs it !
It's like Insulin - it's your endocrine system that uses it to keep your body functioning healthy.
T for men is tied into mood, libido, drive, body composition etc...
It's just responsible for way too many things!

You will want to keep an eye on your estradiol, your Hemoglobin (TRT increases Red blood cells)
What kind of dosing regimen are you on ?
what form of T are you using ?

More is not better with T. You have to find the right dose of T with the least amount of side effects for you.
You could be well just being in the 600-700 ng/dl range.

Is your doc a man ?
Are you on TRT only ? or use HCG with it ?

My last free testosterone level = 70.1
And my Total Testosterone was = 376 (the reference range on the lab says 300-800).
I think its too low but doc says it in range.

My Dr. is a man. I was given the option of Hcg to prevent the testicles from shrinking and initially chose not to take it. However, I asked for it to be added when my Rx is filled next month because, based on additional research I did on my own, I’ve concluded there could be benefits in addition to keeping the testicles from shrinking.

I don't know your body fat levels, but HCG raises estradiol. You may need to take something to keep aromatization down depending on your body. HCG does keep shrinkage away. (Dose dependant) and if you were primary hypogonadal it may be that you need a slighlty higher dose of HCG for the testes to respond.
It also backfills the pathways that are shutdown due to TRT.
HCG is an analog (mimics) of LH.
LH does a lot in the body for well being.
Progesterone, DHEA, Estradiol, etc all need LH to function optimally.
When you are on TRT - there is ZERO LH & FSH in your body due to pituitary shut down - (negative feedback loop)

Everyone on TRT need to be educated on their health.
Don't bring this up with your doctor, most are intimidated by their patients knowing more than them and you don't want them to turn you away and let you suffer with Low T.
I've seen it all thru the years.

Good luck!

What is your CBC ?
is this 376 level( TT) trough or peak ?
what day do you do blood tests ?
what is your estradiol level ?
are you on injectable T only ?
PSA ??
