Maybe they should be killed but tortured? Isn't that a bit caveman? I'd like to think we're a bit more civilised than that. Also torture had got to be more expensive than a quick death.

You can't fight insanity or crazy with "civilized". And we are not torturing for the purpose of torture. It is to get the individual to reveal information. A quick death won't reveal that information.

This would seem to be more shocking if Trump was reinstating something that hadn't been using for 40-50 years. It was implemented by Bush and just rescinded by Obama.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. If someone is known to be a terrorist that's fair enough. As long as innocent suspects are spared.

Gotta love the revisions. We don't want to fight against "terrorism"--only against "radical Islamism." It's not even enough to call them "jihadist terrorists"; they have to be "radical Islamists."

Apparently, it's the religion, more than the terrorism, that's at issue here.

When a Christian goes on a mass shooting rampage in churches or theatres etc it's "just a mass shooting" but if the shooter is muslim, it's terrorism. Oh yes, christians can't be terrorists I suppose. Some people don't see that wacko christian fanatics are just as deluded as those of any other religion.

No it hasn't been used for fifty years. Torture is prohibited by the Geneva Convention, first signed in 1949 and revised in 1979. Bush just ignored it.

I love how people quote the Geneva Convention when most who quote it know little to nothing about it. It is an agreement adhered to in conflict, ONLY by parties who are MUTUAL members and have signed it. It is NOT a worldwide standard, and it is not applicable unless both parties in the conflict were signing members.

If you would research the "enhanced interrogation techniques" you will also find that lawyers and constitutional scholars *on both sides of the aisle* have reviewed the procedures exhaustively and find *no legal or moral grounds* to constitute "torture". If you'll dig a little further, you'll also find out that President Bush personally excluded 2 techniques from the current/original list of approved methods because he personally didn't approve of them; he felt they went too far. (I fucking don't, because I have personally seen the rationale of our enemies).

Until we fight fire with fire, this is what we face. Our enemies will continue to perform grossly heinous and sickening acts against us as a nation and individually, because they know they are "safe in our courts". The FIRST thing demanded by most of our combatants upon capture is a lawyer. They know they can carry out whatever sickening thing they want because liberals will demand of them a "fair trial".

Many high level operatives have only "broken" under the enhanced interrogation techniques, and by their own admission never thought we would go to those lengths to gain the information.

When it comes to the safety and security of my country, my fellow Americans; liberal, democrat, conservative, republican, moderate, independent, or otherwise, I will torture the fuck out of anyone as long as it keeps my people safe.

The inherent danger lies in the fact that most modern snowflakes are afraid to do this...... and our enemies know it.

It's fair to say terrorists are 'not right in the head', and maybe torture is the quickest and most effective way of getting information of them. That might be vital in saving lives. In that case I'm all for it. But nothing is as cut and dried as that. I would just have to trust the right authorities to use the methods only when appropriate. It doesn't sit well with us because we're not used to this kind of treatment towards anyone, but you can't really have mercy on someone endangering the lives of many.
