I guess you don't wnat to get economics advice on a large dick forum, who would have thought. You may also want to pick up The Art of the Deal so you can understand how Trump negotiates and pushes the Overton window.

There won't be a 20 percent tariff. This idea is an opening bid to negotiations. If Mexico digs in and won't negotiate and a 20 percent tariff is enacted, it would be a complete economic disaster for Mexico, and no most manufacturers simply won't be able to pass the cost onto the consumer, that is not how economics works. Mexico would shortly bend their knee and give into Trump's demands after suffering severe consequences.

It's what they (Trump and his supporters) DO when they have nothing else. Considering the source, not worthy of a reply.

Trump's defenders (SOME at least) must be beginning to realize they've been HAD by many of Trump's promises. Naturally, since they never thought what he was proposing through. All THEY knew (thought) was that THEIR vote was going to get BACK at someone ELSE.

Can everyone just learn some math and simple economics? 20% or 2% any tariff Trump places on Mexico to pay for his illustrious wall is going to end up coming from the consumer. The more you have to pay to get something into the US the more you're going to charge for it.

Sure in a perfect world the business would suck up tariff as the cost of doing business but that'll never happen. They pass the increase on to you the consumer. Sadly this'll happen and Trump will blame the Mexicans for increasing prices as a way to "stick it to us" and the Trumpers will eat it up and grab their pitch forks.

seams like we are all paying for the wall no mater what.. either in a tax forum or benefits to illegals.. so maybe the wall in the long term would be best.. then the illegals wont be coming. causing a drain on our systems.. come here legal way no prob.
