Wayne Dwyer wrote a book called "Pulling Your Own Strings" which is a typical self help book. Wayne Dwyer looks like he pulls his own string. And relationship motivator Dr Phil seems to attract as much animosity as he does viewers.

For some people at times, these kinds of books and people can be useful to bolster your sense of self esteem.

People in this country read lots of self help books.

And diet books. Let's not forget the diet books. Lots of them are best sellers every year.

So, I guess this is a country full of fat whiners?

Why can't people motivate themselves? They just make the writers of diet books rich, and imbeciles like Dr Phil rich and famous.

Much of the blame goes to our need for instant gratification. We want everything and we want it now!

We want to lose weight without effort. No excercise, no change in lifestyle, i.e, eating healthier foods and smaller portions.

We want to feel better about ourselves and learn what problems others have that cause us to not feel better about ourselves.

And we'll keep buying books and watching talk shows until we find one that does it all with no or very limited effort on our part.
