Trying to return lost items

    Hello :)

Yesterday, I found a hat around my college and it looks pretty decent. For me, if I ever lost something like this (like my sunglasses), I would wish that somehow it would find its way back to me...

So, I kept that hat and today I decided to print some posters describing the hat and naming the date when it was lost... I know some might find me stupid for doing this, but I also left my contact number.

It's been about 6 hours, and about 15 minutes ago, I received a phonecall - from a young male, who was asked me about the hat and began harrassing me for being a 'dickhead'. He was quite verbal. I saved his number in case he calls again.

I'm really not upset at all, but just a little bit annoyed. I don't find anything wrong with what I did by trying to return this hat to someone, who might find the item very important. I'm deciding to keep the posters up for another week or so, and if the actual owner doesn't call, then I'll take them off.

Does anyone have any suggestions to a better way to try to return the hat?? I really don't feel right if I just throw it in the bin. Has anyone done a similiar thing in trying to return an item? And, let's say, if you lost an item of clothing that you really like, you would want it back right??

I don't think I've done anything wrong - but maybe I've gone about it the wrong way... :)

I don't have any suggestions, but admire you for trying to find the owner. You're obviously a good person.

Thanks :) It's almost 5 in the afternoon for me, and since yesterday, no one has called.. (possibly a good thing!). I only put posters around the place where the hat was lost, so I hope the owner takes the same route where he/she was going the other day.
Thanks again for the encouragement! Is there a lost/found section on craiglist? I might try that out.
