Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th
This is really gong to screw over LGBTQ+ people.
YouTube is still restricting and demonetizing LGBT videos — and adding anti-LGBT ads to some
I've had a Tumblr since october of 2011. Losing tumblr is like losing a part of my body. I have an an insanely rough year and porn and other NSFW content on tumblr has been the only thing getting me through it.
And considering how many text only LGBTQ+ blogs were hit in tumblr's most recent string of taking down blogs, things are going to be really bad. Many safe for work LGBTQ+ tumblrs were taken down. And many blogs focusing sex education are going to be hit by this.
And a huge part of this is Apple flexing it's muscles to force ALL NSFW content off of a website/app. Meaning that twitter and reddit are the last ones standing, and Twitter has being trying to get rid of porn for a while. Apple screwed grindr over really bad in the past, too.
Tumblr is my go-to for porn; I like that the photos and videos usually show just the specific sexual acts and ‘money shots’ enabling me to move on to the next one for quick gratification.
I’ll miss it and will have to find another easy, free source.
Probably won’t use Tumblr in the future once this material is removed and banned
The porn must flow...
What are some free alternatives?
twitter for now, but they have been trying to ban porn too
Twitter is hell to navigate... and I can't find any decent porn on there.
Tumblr is so fucking stupid, that food/cooking blogs, animal blogs, and a bunch of completely work safe blogs are getting taken out too
Goodbye Tumblr. That place will be a ghost town soon.
I never did get into Tumblr. I'm not sure why. It was always just meh...
Life will be no different for me.
Its a pity. Something else will pop up to fill the void.
I already use other sites for food/recipes, humor, etc. but it was a nice option for occasionally finding artistic nude, pin up, BDSM, and other pervy stuff to share. I can find a little more artistic but not actual porn on an art site or two, but Tumblr did have a niche. I don't Instagram, Snapchat, or any of that other stuff...
It's their sandpit and they can do what they like with it.
I still like Deviant Art for artistic nudes.
Ditto, on not getting into Tumblr. I just never figured it out. I guess I looked at it a few times but never took time to create an account and start saving things. So it never became a thing for me
I can understand why people like @MickeyLee might feel a loss though, because it kinda seems like a site I used to LOVVVVEE called mlkshk which was similar but mlkshk was on a much smaller scale, I think, and more simplistic. I hated it when it went down. Lots of cool old ads, gifs, architecture pics, art, music & art vids, nostalgia, design, vintage porn or erotica pics. Majority of stuff I post to "tumblrish" thread is stuff I saved from my shake. You could save stuff you liked and subscribe to the users who posted content you wanted to see, such as modern architecture pics or 80s music vids. Whatever you liked, though userbase wasn't huge and not a big focus on porn however you could defo find some hot (IMO) vintage images.
What especially bothers me to hear about this ban is that it may very well affect some LGBTQIA pages even if they aren't really porn. As I understand, it's because illegal content was discovered...and if I am not mistaken, Tumblr cracked down, but Apple still removed the app from its app store. This resulted in Tumblr's new policy
And I say good for them if it gets rid of the bad, but shame if they're going to restrict other things not breaking the law
The ban did take place because of illegal pornographic content that was up. I'm 1000% behind that stuff not being anywhere. The problem is all kinds of innocent blogs and content is getting hit because Tumblr is terrible. Their bots, algorithms, whatever it is they're using to flag and/or remove content and blogs is way faulty. Plenty of sites with adult content exist that are able to not have illegal fucked up stuff on it. Tumblr has the dumb. Their stock took a nose dive off a cliff, too.
It's too soon to tell, but Ello (link) might be a decent alternative. I'm giving it a test run.
I wonder how many billions of dollars the bosses of Tumblr happily made from porn. I'm sure their new-found morality means they'll be donating it all to charity.
It's a shame. I just really started using Tumblr too. Even have my own blog now. This morning I pulled up mine and noticed many of the post that I had reblogged already had a message. This Blog has been flagged as Adult Content. I tried to figure out what the meant by password protection. It was confusing. I guess I will just ride it out and see what happens....
Yes, won’t be using Tumblr once Porn is removed/blocked
I'll still have my account and I won't be logging off.
I don't give a fuck.
