Though Twitter can be very useful as shown in Iran:

"The U.S. State Department doesn't usually take an interest in the maintenance schedules of dotcom start-ups. But over the weekend, officials there reached out to Twitter and asked them to delay a network upgrade that was scheduled for Monday night. The reason? To protect the interests of Iranians using the service to protest the presidential election that took place on June 12. Twitter moved the upgrade to 2 p.m. P.T. Tuesday afternoon — or 1:30 a.m. Tehran time. (Read "The Iran Election: Twitter's Big Moment.") When Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone founded Twitter in 2006, they were probably worried about things like making money and protecting people's privacy and drunk college kids breaking up with one another in 140 characters or less. What they weren't worried about was being suppressed by the Iranian government. But in the networked, surreally flattened world of social media, those things aren't as far apart as they used to be — and what began as a toy for online flirtation is suddenly being put to much more serious uses. After the election in Iran, cries of protest from supporters of opposition candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi arose in all possible media, but the loudest cries were heard in a medium that didn't even exist the last time Iran had an election."

Today, after purchasing a new Apple G phone, I was introduced to that thing called Twitter. Is it me? Or is Twitter simply a tool designed for the majority suffering Attention Deficit Disorder and cannot string more than two sentences together? It seems rather a waste of time to randomly send off one's thought of the moment to what I bet is mostly an uninterested social network.

How do the LPSG-ers weigh in on this modern inconvenience. Vote today!
I've never used twitter, when I have looked on the internet at the tweets of different people when included in links it has been completely silly. Maybe I need to sign up or something but all I see are 1 comment after another for pages and all by the same person. It looks like a crazy person talking to themselves.

No I haven't and never will. I really don't see the point other than it being used by attention gathering people.

Yes I can take a shit and wipe my ass in less than a 140 characters.

No. But I can tell you what the last tweet wil be. Well, they were right, the end of the world is he............... Yep there will be people tweeting till the very end, even though they probably have a human being sitting next to them on the bus. Tweeting is for the birds.

Seriously FB, Twitter etc have to be some of the most egocentric, self indulgent, self involved platforms I've ever come across.

People, you are not interesting enough for people to care if you had a particularly satisfying dump, that you had to wait at Starbucks to get served or that the cat threw up on your carpet.

Get over yourselves.

In Egypt, Libya and Syria, FB and Twitter have been seriously useful to the protesters and revolutionaries. I can forgive the social media companies a lot because of the key roles their products have played in the past year in organizing and getting the news out of these countries. Especially the hellhole of Syria.

I keep in contact with a lot of the kinky people I know over Twitter (that and Fetlife). Since I cannot/do not text with most of them, it's an easy way to stay in touch. I don't follow that many people, nor do I care how many people follow me. I discuss random kinky shit, games, and music. I endeavor to not actually talk about my emotional state or mundane things, though it does happen occasionally.

The people I follow are either online acquaintances/friends, or an organization/company I care about. I follow Kotaku for example, since I can't be bothered to check their site throughout the day on my own looking for articles I might want to read. I don't expect other people to use Twitter, or any other social media. I DO use Twitter to promote my blog some (whenever I make a post since my Twitter account is linked to it, it sends out a message to my followers).

I don't think that Twitter is inherently bad.. just that a lot of people use it in really dumb ways. :biggrin1:

I don't tweet. Tweeting is for twats!

Twitter is unimportant and superfluous

All these x 1000. I guess we can at least be thankful that it is useful in those oppressed parts of the world that some posters have mentioned, but for 99% of the rest of the users, I think The Dragon summed it up best.

Okay.

I use Twitter professionally. Meaning the people who follow me are in my industry, and the people I follow are in my industry.

Sufficed to say, there is a suspicious lack of Starbucks and cat-related postings on my Twitter feed, and a noticeable enrichment of science-related postings.

You might be surprised how few people actually use twitter to tell other people about their cat, baby, or coffee. That's what Facebook is for.

I have family that uses it...and being the only person that escaped from KY in my family...It's yet another way to keep in touch. *I HATE talking on the phone*..Also too..it's a good way to get someone to go out or do something at the last minute. You get to see who's bored at home too. LOL

Excuse me ma'am, but that's just a little hard to believe.

Lots of people I know thought email was a complete waste of time twenty years ago and now they can't live without it. Same goes for mobile phones.

Um, for all of you that hate it, think it's for attention whores, etc.. it's easy to NOT USE IT. And not everyone uses it in the way you're deriding. For those who do like attention (yeah, I like some attention), there are worse ways to go about it. If ya don't like someone's twitter, don't fucking Follow them.
