Probably a few years ago. 3 or 4. He still has it. Some say it was alopecia due to stress that he may have had late 2017 early 2018. Because he went from a full beard with gray in it to patchy.

I don't think it's so much a saintly thing as he was a child star and has talked in the past about being careful regarding people taking pictures of him in swimwear and such. Hell, he worked for years on the Seventh Heaven set with a confessed pedophile roaming around and then Teen Wolf where some twink's nudes would leak every month that had a y in it. I can see how that background would make you take special care with any risqué content.
