Thanks all. My plan is to renew my Mexican passport over the holidays. We may visit Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara this coming spring or summer. I have the right to return, own coastal property, and the state of Jalisco has marriage equality which may mean that my husband would have a shorter path toward a work permit. He has severe tinnitus and bad feet and ankles which appear to be service connected as he did three tours in Operation Desert Storm.

Serious question: Why not just stay in California?

Winters in Vancouver, and summers in Quebec City would be nice... :)

How about an English/Spanish speaking island in the Caribbean?

I'm not going anywhere... I'm in for the fight!

Good for you! I hesitate to say, how much damage can be done under one government in 4 -8 years, because history tells us that quite a bit of damage can be done; but I have faith in so many good Americans who believe in equality for all and willl continue to stand up for what they believe in.

Never let racism or sexism or homophobia stand. Another vote happens for state legislatures happens in two years (from what I understand) - make your voices heard. Protests in the street are one thing, but it's the butts we put in the seats that facilitate change.

Or maybe that's just me. :p

Come to Massachusetts!
1. They cannot repeal Obamacare in this State. We passed it first in 2006 and it is and will remain State Law
2. First State to allow same-sex marriage
3. A gazillion universities. (lots of smart people)
4. EVERY Statewide office is held by a Democrat except for our Republican Governor who we like and would be a Moderate Democrat anywhere else.(He did not vote Trump)
5. Massachusetts is "no Place For Hate". Every protection that minorities need has already been put into place.
6. Hillary Clinton won EVERY COUNTY in this State.
7. We JUST LEGALIZED POT

Used to live in Massachusetts!!! Loved every minute of it!!! And certainly enjoyed the summer eye-candy in P-Town! :p

It would be far more preferable to keep all of you; and, instead, send Fat Ass, Torquemada, Eddie Munster, Yurtle the Turtle, and the rest of the swamp on a one way mission off the planet with extremely limited supplies. One can dream.

Please consider staying. You are all valuable, good-hearted, and needed here.

We like our town and like California. We like our home and the pool. So we are discussing critical signal events that would drive a decision to leave, such as a Muslim registry, and trying to lay plans in advance. It would probably be Spain, France, England, or Mexico.

Thanks guys, I am not panicking but am on pretty high alert as I think that, with two psychos at the helm and the Rs controlling both houses of Congress, our system of government may be about to change forever. Jews with their eyes on the horizon got out of Germany and Austria in the early thirties with their assets intact. However, this thread is not intended to initiate a political discussion. Rather, it is to seek practical information regarding the emigration and gay related climate in various countries.
Big Bull, we have talked about Spain. With the current depressed economy we could probably buy a simple small home outright and thus better weather financial eventualities. Health care is a concern, as is my husband's ability to work. If we were in Mexico and a serious health concern came up, Puerto Vallarta is only a short flight from San Diego. Also, as a citizen, we could probably get my husband citizenship there. Puerto Vallarta is also relatively safe and very gay-friendly as are Guadalajara and Mexico City.
There is actually a need for trained and educated social workers in England. In fact, one of my least competent students managed to get a job there.
"....and the award for ridiculous over-reaction goes to!!"
