Don't hate on her.....

Well she hasn't been exactly honest. She knew for 3 yrs she had diabetes before disclosing it. It was only after she cut a deal with big pharma before she did. Meanwhile back at the ranch she kept the bad stuff coming.

This is definately a lot of the problem.
I went to the US before and the medium chips and drinks were the size of the large ones back home. Plus everything seemed to be greasier. I also noted it tasted worse for some reason.

There is nothing greasier in the world than your Chippies over there (chips, gravy, etc.)

Last time I was in Canada, there were as many fat asses up there as there were down here in the US.

Obesity is a world epidemic, not just an American one.

You haven't lived until you've eaten the beer battered chips sold at the local Chippie.

So crisp with an almost tempura type, lighter than air batter. Fluffy, creamy, steaming potato on the inside.

Gods.....now I'm hungry!

I prefer fish and chips at Captain D's in the US (still get sick on it LOL...honestly as greasy as anything you'd find anywhere in the US LOL).

The UK does indeed have "Chippies", but for many Brits a visit is a rare treat! Besides the thick "chips" we have over here are actually not as fattening as skinny fries...

In Scotland however they deep fry anything & everything, including chocolate bars! Yuck...

Yes there are plenty of fat people in the UK... BUT I have never seen so many fat people as I have in the US, especially the large proportion of very fat people or super obese...

I lived in the UK, and Chippies are no "treat": a lot of people eat there every day (who are you fooling?).

I've never seen as many drunks in my life as I've seen in the UK.:biggrin1:

Look I'm all about eating healthy. i try to do it myself but look at it. Shopping at Food Basic between shopping at Stop&Shop and between shopping at Pathmart. Pathmart will always have the cheapest foods while food basic charges $14 for a freaking pineapple.

For some people there is no choice about eating healthier because they just can't afford it.
One gallon of whole milk will cost less than one gallon of silk milk. Silk milk is healthier but there are some who need to pinch every penny.

My Ex boyfriend who i went out with during grade school had no money for food. he barely ate at home cause there was no food. he would have about $1 every three days. he would buy cheap junk food and 25 cent soda bottles. And he was really cute but now he gained so much weight. Its not always a choice people.

that is one thing.

Another thing people have to get used to smaller portions. America's motto is the bigger the better and it's clearly not working. That is something the we have control over but for someone who had grown up with big portions, its really hard to cut your diet in half. What if you made $100,000 and the next year you only made $50,000 You would not be so happy. You have to view food the same way.

Not everything has an excuses, but you have to understand the entire situation before you can criticize other people.

Also before i forget, another reason America is becoming over weight, is the advances in Technology. Also everything is Automatic. You don't even have to hang out with your friends to talk to them. You can buy everything online! including groceries now.
The sad part is the if public school did not have to cut their budgets for athletics, more kids would be involved in sports.

The way i see it, everything is connected in one way or another.

i hope that makes sense cause my mind is going a mile a minute and Its hard to type down all the ideas that are pouring from my head.

I couldn't believe how spoiled Americans were until I lived in Western Europe and Australia. That explains some of the obesity problem (not of all it, though). But then, again, some island in the South Pacific is known for obesity, too. Not sure that they are all that spoiled (obesitiy = ideal look there).

Our food is totally TOXIC. I have read so many articles about beef, chicken and pork and the garbage they are fed. Cows eating blood and wheat, Antibiotics fed to poultry and pigs (these antibiotics have deleterious effects on humans), GMOs (thanks to Monsanto for that one), High fructose corn syrup in EVERYTHING.

Portions are bigger, people are lazier. American automobiles reflect that. I feel like a midget (sorry for being politically incorrect) when sitting in a lot of new vehicles but then I realize they are designed for 250+ pound people with a 40" waist.

I work with one woman who weighs about 275... She eats CONSTANTLY and has a desk job. I wonder how she can look in a mirror every day!

Regardless of where you live in the world or what fast food restaurants are available there is a secret to keeping healthy that the purveyors of fast food would prefer you not to know:

"You don't have to eat it"

Absolutely correct.

Any country that has more than 33% overweight should be wondering what is going on. A good twenty minute walk a day burns off the equivalent of 14 pounds a year.

Well I'm sure there are some unhealthy pigs who go to the Chippie every day, but I wouldn't say the were in the majority. Infact I don't know of anyone who actually ever visits a chippie ever! Most people I know would have a Chinese or Indian take away as a treat instead, I guess it varies over the UK too...

Yes the UK has a lot of drunks, tends to be mainly a problem with younger people though who go out & get bladdered at the weekend, rather than being alcoholics who drink every night. Binge drinking is the term used over here...

You will be telling me next Americans are Teetotal

Last month my daughter and I had a winter holiday in the US. First in Florida and then a week in New York City. In New York she commented that "They aren't so huge here dad." In Florida we had made cruel jokes about the blimps floating across the parking lots heading for Best Buy. LOL.

But in NYC it was true. Generally the people were much slimmer. I think it is because in Manhattan, not so many people have cars and are more likely to walk six blocks to get to a shop or a subway.

In the UK the government tried to make out it was the fast food chains that were the cause of children now being fatter than 20 years ago. Places like McDonald's were made to reduce the largest portion sizes, had to put nutrition facts on their food & then had to offer healthy alternatives like salad & bags of fruit.

It is not the fault of McDonald's if a childs parent takes them in there a few times a week, it is the parents fault! When I was a kid a trip to McDonald's was a real treat, only going about 2 or 3 times a YEAR! Kids don't need bags of fruit in there instead of fries, they just need to go in there less! It aint rocket science...

Also when I was a kid after school we would go out to play & burn off loads of energy (& calories) we didn't have the 100's of TV channels that there are now, we had kids programmes on for a couple of hours from getting in from school & that was it. We did have computers, but nothing like the computers now, where via the internet kids can play their friends without having to move their butts off the couch. It's no wonder the younder generation are turning fatter & fatter...
