Did anyone else see Michael Bisping get knocked the f*** out by Dan Henderson??? I sure hope so. I've nothing against the U.K. (I was with an English girl for years) but when someone talks as much shit as Bisping before a fight (and on the Ultimate Fighter), its great seeing him get put on his ass by someone as humble and softly- spoken as Big Dan Henderson. :biggrin1:

USA!

What is the need for the thread title....?

One arrogant englishman does not represent an entire nation.

Because that is the title under which the fight and the season of the Ultimate Fighter was marketed as and that is probably what most MMA enthusiasts would recognize as the fight between Henderson and Bisping. I think you're looking too far into it.

That's fair enough then, i've only ever seen boxing titles by challenger names.

All the talking shit before a match is all part of the pull...it gathers an audience....if the guys are both sweethearts then it won't get the larger audience....and a large audience equals larger interest from sponsors, which in turn garners larger amounts of cash for the promoters. It's a pre-match act.

As for the UK vs US thing,
I'm not sure why you highlighted this? Many a time a loud mouthed Yank has been bloody nosed by a sweet hearted Brit also....but then they were probably also playing the part....

You get my vote

Its a fighter's choice to either run his mouth in the pre-game or not run his mouth. It may do alot for marketing and increasing the hype, but there have been several fighters who chose to act instead of talk. Its not as though there's a "you must taunt your opponent leading up to a fight" clause in their contracts.

And you guys clearly missed the most recent season of the Ultimate Fighter. The friendly rivalry that starts from a title such as "United States vs. United Kingdom" helps sales and turnout much like that pregame shit-talking does (the same shit talking that Henderson abstained from.) This might not be a first for boxing, but its a first for MMA.

And once more: the fight and the Ultimate Fighter season that came before said fight were titled "United States vs. United Kingdom." Am I in the wrong to use the same title?

You don't know this. It's not as though there might be written into their contract... 'you must not taunt your opponent leading up to a fight', either!! Have you got a copy....have I? Nope.

Pre-fight taunting is an established tradition mate, it sells tickets!! The very fact you posted a thread beating your chest about the fact that a foul mouthed arrogant bloke got punched out by a sweet humble bloke is testament to that.

You believed the hype mate...sold! (hook, line and sinker!).

I don't mind a bit of friendly rivalry between the UK and the States - you know we like you guys anyway. :)

Cheers for the support though, Pieterjoke. :) I'm sure Hotrocker didn't mind it badly against the UK though.

[But just for the record.... UK!!!!! :D]

I watched the whole season of the Ultimate Fighter season 9 without ever even thinking about the "USA Vs UK" gimmick as it was unimportant to me. Even when "we Brits" won both weight categories of the show it didn't cross my mind to sing "God Save The Queen" or cheer for my country. But I guess I'm just different like that.

I think gimmicks embarrass the sport of MMA and as a fight fan, I found myself actually routing for and even placing a bet on Dan Henderson to win the fight. Just because I prefer his fighting style of knock out or be knocked out to Bisping's jab and run style.

If we're gonna get into a country vs country thing, I think the UK came out looking better from the whole reality show experience by getting 3 out of 4 guys into the finals and winning both contracts on offer, even after Hendo's thunderous KO over Bisping.

Now I find myself wondering how well Henderson will do in his rematch with Champion Anderson Silva rather than where Michael Bisping goes from here.

Go Hendo!

I wouldn't mind a lighthearted UK v US thread...would be a bit of fun.

Harrods v Macy's
Pavement v Sidewalk
Nappies v Diapers...

That sorta thing. :) Maybe the 'This or That' thread's good enuff tho?..

I like Bispinfg, but he did run his mouth alot. Hendo is a really humble fighter so bispings gonna look a dick against him. i was gutted when he lost, though, it would have been nice for the UK to win ALL three fights. most of the US team in TUF where arrogant dicks themselves, apart from the guy who had his teeth knocked out, his name escapes me, he definantely got my respect. has anyone else heard GSP is thinking of moving up a weight class to fight anderson silva, now theres a fight
