I don't have cable access and I watch less than an hour of broadcast TV each week. I can't stand commercial TV because so much of what it tries to pass off as news or entertainment is stupid and insulting to my intelligence. Local TV news is by far the worst offender with network news somewhere behind.
I do contribute about $100 per year to several local publicly funded classical and jazz music radio stations that feature NPR or BBC news spots. I like uninterrupted music, and, more importantly, I perceive NPR and BBC news reporting to be of a higher quality than standard sound-bite driven sensationalistic commercial news so prevalent in the US.
