Most guys seem to wear boxers now (90s-present) but briefs were the major underwear in the 70s-80s. Do you think briefs will ever take over again, or are boxers here to stay? Or will the fence sitters aka boxer briefs forever overshadow briefs?

A lot depends on whether we evolve toward being those waiflike, asexual beings with no apparent genitalia that you see in science fiction, or whether we take full advantage of genetic engineering to have huge external genitalia.

In that case, we are going to need underwear with a lot more support.

    LOL!

Well when I was a kid, boxerbriefs were new and only worn by models and the gay scene. Now, boxerbriefs are seemingly becoming the underwear of choice for many men, gay or straight. I think boxerbriefs will be around for a long time, and so will boxers, but the boxers or briefs we grew up with may be considered old fashioned and outdated in the future, the same way we think of underwear from the 1900s today.

50+ years from now, boxers may still be loose-fitting but will perhaps be cut slimmer to the body and simply look and feel a bit looser than boxerbriefs and allow more air-flow. Briefs may be replaced by square-cut trunk briefs.

Briefs have been back in fashion, maybe only here in Europe, for ages now.

From what I tend to see on guys, the boxer brief seems to be an increasingly popular choice. Hey, even I wear them, and I'm a girl! (Though admittedly, I don't fill out the pouch as well as guy do...;))

I think that briefs have already taken over as first place. Despite all the young guys in the '90s and '00s who wore boxers and flashed them, most of the guys in their 30s, 40s and 50s wore briefs as an every day standard item. It's just that we never saw them. I'd love to see the sales history for FTL, Hanes, Jockey, and CK. My guess would be that it ranks like this:
    1. briefs
    2. boxer briefs
    3. boxers

Ironically, I came late to the boxers party 4 years ago. I never liked them when they were popular, but oddly enough, got into the freeball / boxers thing in 2005. Now I don't like snug underwear.

I doubt that briefs will come back to where they were in the 1970s/early 1980s. I'm willing to bet that boxer-briefs will soon be the underwear of choice for most men, although I never liked them personally.

I always preferred boxers, but now I just freeball. I'd never go back.

i've been wearing trunks for 2 years now. and before that, i wore boxer briefs. there was a website selling a new kind of underwear, but i forget the name. basically, it held your balls all snug in place, yah? but your cock was out. there was a hole in the underwear for your cock, but the rest of the undies was whole. it was interesting to say the least. if i ever remember the website, i'll post it

I think briefs are comming back, but I don't really care for them. Theyre not confortable and it's a bit of a turn off when I guy is wearing them to me. but, wear whatever you like

I think briefs are on the rise again, but styles like boxerbriefs and trunks are likely to become more popular and possibly outrank them.

I think both brief and boxer brief will remain around longer. They willbe made in different fabrics, and a more sensual feel to them.

I don't understand the point of boxer-briefs, especially the snug ones. I've tried them but I find they either stretch out so it's eventually like wearing boxers or they ride up while you're moving about. I wear boxers in the summer (or go commando) under shorts but more often than not, it's briefs. I'm guessing briefs are making a come back since I see more and more guys wearing them. Maybe a poll with age and what you're wearing might help determine where things are nowadays.

Interesting...but what's the point? If the point of underwear generally is hygienic...this only solves half the problem. If the point is comfort from your dick chafing against the inside of clothes...then this solves the problem...but creates an odd situation when pissing because you have to take your sock off. Until the cock sock becomes more universal...everyone will wonder what the fuck you are doing putting a tiny little sock on your dick.

And what happens when you get a hard-on? Do you pop the sock off? Wardrobe malfunction...it needs a rethink.

Most definitely a weird one. It looks good but functionality is lacking - you can't maneuver out of it to pee. You're left having to go to a stall because you have to actually remove it and put it back.

    I agree - it needs a rethink!
