I do 20k a day on the bike to work and back and have to wear briefs to keep everything together or it's just too uncomfortable and the mesh lining has in the past chapped the hell out of me (no nice)

Yes, they are intended to be worn commando. They don't work properly with underwear, but to each his own. I, for one, can't imagine wearing underwear with biking shorts.

If they are quality cycling shorts with a good pad, don't wear underwear with them. The pad wicks away moisture that can cause problems with chafing, rash, and general discomfort. Give your goods a lift upward before you mount the seat and you'll be good to go. Check out the new gear from Pearl Izumi below.

The only issue I have with my bike shorts is that there isn't enough room behind the padding so I run my dick down my leg and that is pretty comfortable, and of course I have a longer shirt on over the shorts.

If they've got a mesh lining and your bits are flapping about, they're not cycling shorts.

One thing to consider: your underwear may have seams in the wrong place and if you ride for any length of time, those seams will rub your skin raw somewhere between your cock and ass.

When I first started to commute to work by bike, it was the winter so I wore jeans and a sweatshirt to keep warm. The crotch seams of the briefs made me saddle sore after only a few days. I tried wearing boxers, and it worked fine. The following spring, I started to wear proper cycling shorts with track pants over them when I needed the warmth, and it made riding even better. We're going for a 40 mile ride today, and I couldn't do it with padded cycling shorts.

No jockstrap. You don't want anything between your skin and the bike shorts. If you have any type of underwear, it will run your skin in the wrong places and you will be very sore for a few days. Bike shorts provide sufficient support for your equipment.

I sweat very little so I get a couple of rides out of each pair of shorts. The picture answers the other question

oh no, too bad I can't se the pictures. Why wear a long shirt ;)

And how often do you wash it, if naked under?

How often do you guys wash your padded biker shorts? I mean, if you ride your bike everyday....
I always shower before I ride so my riding clothes don't get gross. It feels better to be clean before I ride, too. I work it harder on my weekend rides than when I commute back and forth to work.

For commuting to work: wash the shorts every 2 - 3 days; switch between several pair of shorts.

For long rides on the weekend: wash the shorts after each ride.

Thanks for the compliment, dude. I may be getting just just a little more modest as I get older.... I remember the late 70's and 80's where I stuffed my parachute pants to the point where it was almost pornographic (kind of miss it, ha ha)

Sweet! Too bad for everyone else that you wear the long shirt!
