Well I've been running for about 2 weeks now, trying to get back in college shape and flatten my stomach. Today I bought some running shorts from Amazon.

Currently I run with basketball shorts and either briefs or boxer briefs. But my girlfriend told me you dont have to where underwear with running shorts because of the liner. She actually snickered at the idea of me running around and the bulge bouncing as I go.

I usually cut out the inside liner and just wear boxerbriefs under my shorts

I don't wear underwear with my running shorts, but my buddy who has bigger balls says he wear undies because his balls hurt when he doesn't.

Running shorts (and bike shorts, for that matter) are designed to wick moisture away from your body. If you where underwear, it prevents that from happening properly. I also find it much more comfortable to hang somewhat free, but that is an issue for some guys.

if they has a liner in them, you probably are okay.
but maybe to be safe, put a jockstrap on.

I wear compression shorts under my running shorts because my gf insists on it. She claims that it is better support but I really think that she doesn't like the big guy flopping around.

A jock might be nice to have on if you are a serious runner. In fact, the strain on your body will be reduced.

I find that if the running shorts sized right then I don't have to wear anything under them, and in most cases if I do its uncomfortable, though hope the liner is made of a soft material since I've had a few pairs of running shorts in the past where the lining material wasn't comfortable at all to have rubbing on my "tackle".

    What brand/style did u get?

If you want to wear a jock, thats fine, I'd recommend just going with the standard open back jock so you don't get to hot, but I'd go with more of a swimmers style jock, so the waistband won't show above the waistband of the running shorts, if you want to run shirtless.

You should tell her that your not suppose to wear compression shorts under them and that you get to hot...Don't the compression shorts show out from under the running shorts?

Re-reading this topic, I must certainly agree with Matt121.

Back in the '80s, I bought Dolfin striped running shorts. They were great looking, but the built in nylon liner allowed everything to slide around. My default running gear was regular gym shorts with briefs. Briefs held the goods in place, but also kept all that perspiration close to your body. Briefs made from moisture wicking material would be the ticket today for those who don't like to freeball while running. Another idea: Champion makes track shorts with a liner made from what feels like lycra. Check 'em out on Champion's web site.

I usually wear shorts without liner and a jockstrap or a tight thong.

I got Nike running shorts btw. Also bought some New Balance Running Shoes. I have some Nike ones right now, but couldnt pass up on the 75% off sale of these new balance ones.

I think I am going to try without underwear tomorrow, see how it feels.

I ran professionally, 5000m and steeplechase. I never wore underwear or a jock w/ the shorts that have the liners.....and I'm as big and have as big balls as most anybody.

Cool, you'll definitely have to take a pic of you wearing your running gear sometime!!..

If you have a link to or a pic of what shorts you have that would be cool, to tide us over in the mean time so we can imagine you in them...

Don't forget to let us know how the run goes...

And those in a few colors as well.

Going to take a couple days to get them in the mail, and I run tomorrow so I'm going to pick up a pair from the store tomorrow.

i hate athletic shorts and swim trunks with liners. i can't seem to exercise, swim, etc. without wearing a jock underneath for support.
