I generally a voyeuristic person. I am intrigued by the actions of others. As of late, i have tripped across a few situations that have intrigued me. Its one thing to encounter nudity in public at events likes WNBR or the Folsom Street fair, or a college kid in PJ pants. However, encountered a few situations where I have encountered people in their underwear or pajamas in places where it wasn't generally expected or accepted. That led me to wonder if anyone else has encountered this and what the reaction was?
Some of these situations occurred pre-pandemic but as of late, and a few more situations, I decided to write about them to see what others thought.
The first set of situations involve underwear encounters, well actually thermal underwear, and occurred pre-pandemic I was in sports bar hanging out watching the NBA conference playoffs. I noticed a guy, probably mid thirties, swimmers build, dressed all in white tight fitting clothing. The all white is what made him stand out. I didn't think much of it, until i ended up behind him at the bar waiting to get a drink. Up close, I realized, that his all white outfit, was actually a waffle weave thermal crew neck shirt, and waffle weave thermal underwear bottoms, with an FOTL waistband. and not sweatpants.
The shirt was not super long, so it ended at the waistband, and did not cover the fly. I didn't have the balls to ask him why he was just in his long johns, but he didn't seem to care that he was in his underwear and it was obvious to others that he was in his underwear. It didn't seem like he was with anyone, but hung out at the bar, even played some of the video games. I did hear one guy, when we were waiting in line for the bathroom say to him "nice outfit" He said thanks but nothing else. I am not sure if he was there on a dare, but it didn't seem like it, because he was not acting embarrassed or trying to hide the fact that he was just in underwear. Even when I saw other patrons look at him point him to others, it didn't seem to bother him.
I saw him couple of other times at other bars in the same city, at different bars. One of those times, I was close by when a bouncer came up to him ask him to leave because the manager didn't like that he was just in his underwear. It made we wonder if he was trying to pass them off as sweats or workout gear, or if he just wanted to go places in his underwear.
The other situations involved pajamas. I am not talking about the printed flannel pants that college kids wear. I am describing, older style cotton, with a matching shirt that has 3 or 4 large buttons going down the front, and contrasting trim piping on the sleeves, breast pocket and down the front, with either a plaid type print or stripes as the main color. Again, its not unusual to see people in the flannel pants going to the grocery store, or the running a quick errand. This guy, who was probably in his late 30s, was getting on an airplane. I ran into him in the security line. It was an warm spring early morning flight. I was behind him as we were going through screening. He was wearing blue and white striped pajama pants and shirt, no jacket. TSA had pulled him aside, for an extra pat down. After I was screened, and was gathering my bags. I heard the agent ask the guy, as he was getting pat down, if he was wearing his pajamas. The guy said, yes, but what he could he say it was an early flight. The TSA guy said, true it was early, and cleared him and wished him a safe flight.
I ended up following him somewhat on the long walk to the gate. He stopped for coffee and some food. Didn't seem fazed to be walking through an airport and interacting with people while dressed this way. Turns out he was on the same flight as me, but sitting a few rows ahead of me. I ended up behind him waiting for the restroom mid flight. I struck up a conversation, with hey you look comfortable. He said he was, but didn't offer anything more.
I actually ran into the pajama guy recently. I was getting my car serviced and he walked into the waiting room after i got there. He ended up sitting close by, because the place was pretty busy. I almost didn't recognize him because he was wearing a face mask, but his red checkered plaid pajamas that he was wearing made me look closer. After some time passed, I asked him if we had met before, he looked at me quizzically, I said maybe not formally, but I think I ran into on flight a while back, you were wearing pajamas then too. I couldn't tell his facial expression, but he said that it might have been him. So i finally asked, about the pajamas. He said, he likes the comfort. I asked if he was bothered by people staring or looking at him weird when they realize what he was wearing. He said, no. I also asked if he ever had an ran into any issue because he was in pajamas, he said no, no one has ever said anything to him and the conversation ended.
Pajama guy and long underwear guy had me thinking though... Obviously i noticed, and was curious, but do people really care what people wear? Is this something that others notice? What would your reaction be if you ran into either of these guys, or say anyone else that was under or undressed in public at a location that such an encounter would not be expected? Have any of you encountered person in their underwear or pajamas or less in everyday public?
