Guys, I'm posting this as a sort of documentation of a phenomenon that doesn't get talked about much, and which I had to do a ton of research on the web to even learn anything about. I do think some of us are experiencing this though. It's girth gain through what is known as "corporeal herniation" or "tunica weakening."

Over the past 5-6 years, I've noticed my erect girth was getting larger, primarily on the right side of my penis - the right corpora. Nearly all my life, I've been 5.75" in girth, as seen in the first pic. Today, I'm 6.25" at the widest part. Note: I have never done any sort of penis enlargement.

As I understand it, in some men, for reasons that aren't quite certain, the tunica of the penis weakens, basically stretching out, becoming wider. I can't find any medical reports that this is dangerous, or at risk of penile fracture, or anything like that, though when I learned that weakening of the tunica is responsible for the girth increase, that was the first thing I started worrying about. I just can't find any incidents where such a condition led to an unexplained fracture.

I just wanted to post this, because it's not a condition that seems to be widely known or talked about. I think I'm a clear example of it. And I suspect there are others on the forum who have it to some degree. I think my expansion has been stable for the last year or so - not getting any larger, and I hope that remains the case.

Anyway, I hope this is informative in some way, especially as I've seen a few threads where guys were talking about unexplained girth gains over the years. This may very well be the reason.

This is interesting. Do you do any pumping activities or any prolonged edging? I can see that it seems to bulge a bit more to the right in your erect state. How does the tissue feel, is it as firm as the rest of the shaft or soft? Some guys report and I have had it a few times where around the center of the shaft it will get a bit puffy but the puffiness goes away in a few hours afterwards. For me it's been connected with having protracted erections,i.e. high arousal from edging or sex. I did address it once with a doctor and he didn't see an issue and says most guys can get that way if they are doing similar situations as I described.

Have you talked to a urologist? You do seem to have a serious concern. Hope you get your answers and solution. Good luck!

No pumping or any penis enlargement whatsoever. The tissue feels absolutely as firm as the rest of the penis, and in the flaccid state, looks the same as it always has. I spoke to a urologist who says that tissue can indeed stretch over time. There are reports in medical literature of this kind of thing, just not many, so I suspect it's fairly rare, but probably more common than is known, as it probably mostly goes unreported. In fact, I didn't even realize mine had grown until I measured one day and realized it was bigger.

Interesting! Did the urologist offer any long term concerns? I guess my question is are you good with the situation? No difficulty in having sex? I mean I grew in girth going into my early twenties but nothing like you have gone through. Nice of you to bring this information out for those may be going through this. I have a feeling as well that it may be more common than is known. Best wishes.

He didn't mention long-term concerns. To be honest, the first I heard of this was a few months ago in a forum discussing penile implants. A forum member recounted his story, and how one of the premier surgeons in this regard, Dr. Francois Eid in NY, told him that his massive girth around the base of his penis was likely due to a "weakened tunica." The guy remembered that he used to be 6" girth, but over the years had grown to almost 7", without really realizing it. He had developed erectile dysfunction over many years and hence, the implant surgery. Dr. Eid said weakened tunicas like this can be a bit of a challenge with an implant, as the implant wants to expand outward into the "ballooned" area. It sounded like Eid sees this enough to not be shocked or anything. BTW - the guys implant went fine and though he did lose girth, as expected, he looks perfectly normal. I've also seen another implant surgeon reference a case of "stretched tunica" before, so it must be more common than we appreciate.

But that's when a light bulb went off and I realized that's what was going on with me - my tunica has basically stretched over the last 5-6 years. I didn't realize this until I was dating a new girl and found squeezing into her a bit of a challenge. At first I thought she must be really tight, but at some point I measured my girth and realized it was 1/4" bigger than it ever was. That was about 4 years ago. And it continued about another 1/4", but has been that size for at least the past year. So, a 1/2" gain, total.

To be honest, I was loving the newfound girth, until I read the post about "weakened tunica" and then looked at it in a whole new way, kind of with disgust, if I'm honest. But I've come to accept it, and am just being extra careful to make sure I don't do anything stupid with it that might result in a fracture - though I've never read that it's an increased risk. I'm just being careful, and hoping it has "leveled off" where it is.

Wanted to post here, as it just isn't something I ever knew or heard about, and figured most guys are the same.

This is interesting. I don't have measurements to be able to tell for sure if my girth has increased but, like some other guys have mentioned, probably on here though I am not sure where, it does look to me to be thicker than it was when I was younger. I am 52.

I also wonder if this is a completely normal part of aging. Are there collagen fibres in the tunica? Doesn't collagen tend to lose its elasticity as we age? Could that be a factor?

Thanks for sharing all this information. I've learned something today. I am now concerned for myself as I am in my 40's and know that things will change with my penis some as I grow even older. I think that I've gotten a little thicker but it is at the base of my penis. I surmise that this condition develops gradually over years so you're never really noticing until an event is triggered like your experience with your girlfriend.

My penis got thicker as I aged also. Don't have an explanation for it but it wasn't as thick at 18 or 19 as it was in my late forties and now
The skin of the penis becomes thicker, and the fat becomes thicker, so it becomes thicker as you get older

My penis also thickened over time. 18 & 19 I was 6" girth all the way down my shaft. Sometime in my 40's and 50's. Not exactly sure when. I noticed the shape of my penis had changed from symmetrical to cone shaped . Thickest at the base, 7 3/4"s , about 7 mid shaft and around 6 1/2 " right behind the head. Have no idea exactly when or why i got thicker and change shape.
Also had an implant at 71. Shape change somewhat and I lost some girth. Length remained the same. About 6 3/4" girth now

Very interesting masonjames, sounds like your tunica may have lost elasticity over time as mine has. Can I ask, which implant did you receive, the AMS 700 or the Coloplast Titan (or something else)?

Regards,
eisenhower

@Eisenhower sorry for the personal question, but have you masturbated often during this time period? And are you right or left handed?

I ask because although I'm younger I've noticed a slight size increase over the last decade or so, and I've wondered if frequent masturbation has contributed (as a function of time engorged and force applied to the tunica).

NickSpud91, it depends on what your idea of "often" is - over the years this occurred, I'd probably say 1-3 times a week, as well as sex. And yes, I'm right handed, but I'm not sure that would cause any more stress on one side of the penis than the other, as the hand wraps around it like a cylinder, so the force is probably similar on both sides.
