Sorry to create another thread about a gym when there is already one existing, but this is different and I thought it would be better to keep this separate.

I took a look around a new very high tech gym/sports centre that has opened up near here a few months ago. I was taken on a tour around it last night and to my disbelief it has a unisex changing room and toilet.

It does have two cubicles to change in and joining showers so I don’t suppose opposite sexes walk around nude. How far people take it as to how much they show I have yet to see.

When I go there I’ll try and take a photo of the layout (obviously when nobody is about or else I would get banned).

I’m going to join it during the Christmas spell.

I’m just curious as to how others here would react.

Would love it if the gym I belonged to had a unisex changing room. And yes I agree, I think it would run away several customers who would feel uncomfortable indressing in front of the opposite sex. But I would be a lifetime member.

Maybe they are hoping the number of customers they attract due to the unisex changerooms outweighs the number that steer clear. I know I wouldn't be too comfortable with it.

I can see why you would say that...you would have to beat the guys off you
with a baseball bat!

Look at bright side though...you might meet a handsome well endowed hunk!

What if they want an ugly guy that is small-sized? He might appreciate them more and work really hard at the relationship.

Hey!...I resemble that remark...

Do any women really want an ugly small guy? I would be surprised if they
would. They may take one if true love hits but I doubt how many go looking for those particular qualities. Just my observation over the years.

The dressing rooms and showers aren't co-ed, but... The showers at Crunch on the Sunset Strip here in LA -- share frosted glass walls with the common areas -- so you see silhouettes of everyone taking a shower from the other side. And I'd say a large percentage of people in LA like showing off, so I don't think it discourages anyone from joining. Crunch used to be "the gym," but they haven't maintained it well over the years and LA gyms are pretty compeptitive. Cool concept though.

No way. The last thing I want is to turn around and see my mother or sister in a locker room. I mean really, who throws a shoe? I mean who thought-up this place? A Finn? Not every body in LA is model-worthy. I've seen some people of both sexes I never, ever, even-if-I-were-a-doctor, want to see naked.

What if Bea Arthur hangs out there? She's funny yes, but oh no no no.... I saw Currin's portrait, I don't need to see the real thing.

As many of us males know from experience in the gym lockerroom and sauna and showers now, is the fact that you can tell the small cocked male by watching the guys in these places. He is the guy that wears underwear to the sauna or keeps them or a bathing suit on in the shower because he is afraid he will be the smallest in the gym. The larger guys sit on their towels in the sauna to keep from burning their butt on the hot boards. The smaller guys cover themselves up with the towels. Can you imagine the fear of these guys if they had to share a lockerroom, sauna or shower with women ? Male membership would only be larger than avg guys. They wouldn't sell enough memberships to keep the place open. lol

Some interesting replies here. I’ve noticed from the gyms I’ve been to, younger men tend to be more shy than older men.

I’ve noticed younger age groups tend to avoid Speedo’s whatever their body is like and wear large baggy trunks around the Sauna and Spa areas, whereas older men tend to go for Speedo’s leaving little for the imagination.

I have a Complimentary ticket for this gym; I’m going to use it on 27th December and see what it’s like. I expect more single people there the day after Boxing day, as family people will want to be with there families and probably have loads of housework straight after Xmas.

I’ve been shown around this gym twice and have been told there are about 900 members, but when I’ve looked around there it seems quite empty, possibly because gyms tend to be busy at times after office hours or around the times they hold classes.

I think if you’re in this position because of the design of the gym and without choice, and people don’t go around obviously staring at each other, then it’s something people can get use to.

I agree completely. I, personally, would have no problem changing and showering in front of the other sex. I shower naked, walk to and from the shower naked, and spend as much time naked as reasonably possible and would probably do the same in a uni-sex change room. IMHO i think it would/should be the same as a mens change room - expect to see nudity if you don't want to then come prepared and don't use change room.
