All right, this news is nothing earth-shattering, but definately a step in the right direction....

    --------------------

Sources: US to sign UN gay rights declaration

The Obama administration will endorse a U.N. declaration calling for the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality that then-President George W. Bush had refused to sign, The Associated Press has learned. U.S. officials said Tuesday they had notified the declaration's French sponsors that the administration wants to be added as a supporter. The Bush administration was criticized in December when it was the only western government that refused to sign on.

The move was made after an interagency review of the Bush administration's position on the nonbinding document, which was signed by all 27 European Union members as well as Japan, Australia, Mexico and three dozen other countries, the officials said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because Congress was still being notified of the decision. They said the administration had decided to sign the declaration to demonstrate that the United States supports human rights for all.

    --------------------

Jeez Louise! -- I wonder why the Bush administration had so much trouble with signing onto a "nonbinding document" that every other western government endorsed? It's not like the U.N. is "redefining marriage" for crying out loud! Just making a simple, positive statement: the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

Bush didn't sign it because he is, and represents, homophobic bigots. The man is a shit.

All right, Will, if we must, but if you even begin to suggest Kumbaya, I'll know you've gone 'round the bend.

I always found it a bit hypocritical of the US to claim to be advocats for human rights to all foreign countries but yet they wouldn't allow the same rights in their own country.

Perhaps there's hope yet. (keeping fingers crossed)

The beautiful Coretta Scott King herself linked the gay struggle with the african-american civil rights struggle (thusly):

"I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brother, and sisterhood, for lesbian and gay people." -(Reuters, March 31, 1998).

"For many years now, I have been an outspoken supporter of civil and human rights for gay and lesbian people." -(Chicago Tribune, April 1, 1998, sec.2, p.4).

in the year 2525 when massive overpopulation reaches critical mass, and most of the planet's resources have been depleted i predict heteros will be shunned and persecuted for their unchecked procreation, and most of the population will become homosexual just for the purpose of survival...... or,..... i could be wrong.

Good news. I'm glad the USA has finally done something the rest of the western world did 25-30 years ago.

Sounds like the premise of an Anthony Burgess novel I read in the late 1960's. Advanced Western kulture had adopted homosexuality to control population growth and terrorist bombings were a common daily occurrence. Hmmm . . .
