Unpopular opinions

As I said, my hopes have already been crushed and I've moved on.

Wasn't exactly an argument though. Was a question.
I included rape because it's a scenario the mother has no control over - and therefore cannot plan to avoid it in any way.

Agreed re: medical reasons, where issues such as quality of life and threat to the mother's life enter the equation.

Strongly disagree.

Unpopular opinion: Most anti-gun people know next to nothing about guns. Example? Senator Kevin De Leon and his speech about "ghost guns" and "30-caliber clip to disperse with 30 bullets within half a second. 30 magazine clip within half a second" absurdity.
Half agree, half disagree.

The current, endemic proliferation of firearms doesn't make Americans safer.

But, due to the above, personal hand guns actually might.

The former needs to be addressed before the latter can be tackled. Unless they need focusing on in tandem? (*no answer*).

Dear Airline providers,

Why is it I need to pay for extra baggage on a flight when the person beside me pays for one seat, yet obviously takes up half of mine?

I remember catching planes when everyone fit into their seat. Are they making seats smaller or what?

Because the planes are being made larger.[/QUOTE

People are fatter now, combined with smaller seats, it is a challenge. I find air travel generally disgusting. Not only for this reason but also the poor air quality. It is worse now than when smoking was allowed on planes. Combined with the coughing and sneezing, as few people seem to know how to cough or sneeze into a handkerchief, the whole experience of air travel has become very unpleasant. I hate it. Add that to having to silently witness poor parenting and experiencing annoying children, airports and flying are nothing short of a living hell.

Disagree on grounds of irrelevance. You don't need to know much about the workings of guns to know they are a danger to life and limb. Check the stats http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/03/americas/us-gun-statistics/index.html

Guns don't make Americans safer

Totally disagree. It's a tool I use to keep me safe from you.

Totally disagree. Guns are not the danger to life and limb. Oh yeah. Don't be using a fake news outlet to justify your position.

That doesn't touch on what I was saying is my unpopular opinion... That most anti-gun people know next to nothing about firearms. I think you may have meant to reply to hypolimnas?

It was a generalised reply to both of you - side-skirting the comment about gun knowledge. :yum

Disagree. Gun owners are twice as likely to be shot than non gun owners.

I'm a legal gun owner. I don't deny that having one in my house doesn't actually keep my safer.

Oh, and uh... I'm no huge fan of CNN, but it's not fake news. Establishment media outlet? Yes. All out FAKE? No.

Not everyone felt the need to own a spear, nor a boomerang, nor the bow and arrow. There seemed to be no addiction to own one. Yet everyone has, had the capability to create one.

What is it about a guns that turns us into such protective zealots. Is it their beauty, their power, the ease of which they fit snugly to the hand or body, their sexuality, the power or fascination of something small able to do so much damage. The larger the projectile, the more fascination.

I don't know. All politics aside it seems to be a world wide phenomenon and not just a localized situation.

I've pondered this question for years. I've never been against gun ownership.I'm sure there are differing reasons. Yet, there is something there that is just out of reach of explanation, yet connects it all.

Perhaps it has to do with the Big Bang theory :)
easy....while its easy to appreciate the fine mechanical precision of a well crafted firearm...its more than that

firearms world wide are a symbol of control....control if environment (hunting and animal protection)....protection form other armed people....defense of bordered...keeping groups in power

no one lust after spear or bows ....because there time has passed

historically in medieval times the common man was prohibited from owning sword Spears crossbow and armor....in Europe as well as fuedal japan(not sure on rest of the world).....im.sure the surfs lusted for those weapons then

I'm a gun owner too...however I'm a bit of an odd ball....every male member of my family has been in army...russian and us

and it's been family tradition to take home a war trophy....so all our guns have historical value...and all of em are pretty old....going back to ww1

also a few sabres from way way back

but like you said ...satistics say it makes your house more dangerous....to ignore this would be foolish

sometimes i see the shit going on (public shootings) and I'm ready to ban all firearms

but...

however dangerous guns are I would not want to be the only unarmed guy in an armed society

Nah, I think it just became laziness. A well made arrow was as sought after a well made bow. People I think just got tired of looking for the ones which missed. Something you don't worry about with a gun.

People in the cities...towns may have been prohibited to own pointy things. But people in the country would not have had a problem with making their own and concealing it.

I'm so pleased this has turned out to be an unpopular position - I was worried my comments were off topic.

Are there any gun religion worshippers interested in the facts?

I have a gun license, it took weeks of study and background checking because it is is an exceptional license. But I also value human life - I have studied that all my life.

second paragraph....thats always been case....rural folk even today are more likely to be armed....even in American wild west days...."gun control" was rampade....most towns prohibited firearms.....in rural setting more need to be armed.....and who is gonna enforce it

also people who want weapons.....well they get them....kinda like illegal heaters now

in Germany swords were prohibited for commoners.....so they came uo with the grossmesser.....which is technically not a sword but a big sword sized knife...
.or at least that's the legend of origin of the grossemesser wp_ss_20171214_0002.png

Don't start twisting things.Nothing was said about who is more likely to get shot. I just said it's a TOOL I use to keep me safe from YOU. And I do mean YOU. Went right over your head.

Nope. Disagree. Facts prove otherwise. As for CNN, sure it's an established media outlet. So what. Big fat hairy deal. That doesn't mean shit. The fact is they are a fake news organization and keep proving it everyday. If you're not seeing that, you're not paying attention. So is NBC MSNBC which started it all........

Hey buddy, this isn't supposed to turn into an aggressive argument.

I do know how to use my firearms.

Have a nice day.

Your last point is interesting, if you don't trust the police, military, judicial system and community to keep you and your family safe then those things need to be invested in and fixed.

ask Charles Kinsey how much he should trust police

i may be coming off as more of a gun nut than i am.....i am not one of those you can pay my gun from my cold dead hand guys....

i do have a conceal and carry permit....but it was gotten long time ago for a specific job i had.....kept permit..
but haven't carried in years

mainly cause I'm just not that fearful of my safey....and am not really scared of death....i do alot of dangerous sports (ie basejumping) to worry about the odd chance ill get assulted

my firearm collection is more antique than anything

however....historically and currently the police and military are extremely poor at protecting the citizenry

in fact the militaries mission is one of external security

and the police ....have no legal duty to defend me.....

I'm gonna start a different thread about that.....i urge you and my internet pals (you guys know who you are) to veiw it in politics section

a point of note....remember the Vegas shooting....if i could eliminate lunatics with guns....bombs...or trucks....i would

but i can't......

the lunitic stated shooting at 10.05.....police breached his room at 11 20......

so understand in a city with tons of police and private security....in a public place....help is only an hour away
