One of the issues that I have always been in disagreement with is the belief that the only viable measurement for your penis is along the topside and bonepressed.

I've have been trying to take my maximum measurements for a while now and I'm having trouble using the "traditional" measurement techniques. Why? Because I have an upward pointing/upward curved penis.... and by upward I don't mean 45 degree, I mean 90 degree angle. As in you can't pull my cock off my abs and belly button hardly when it is fully erect or it is painful.

==

Something to consider:

Think of the letter " U ", then of an upside down " ∩"

It is correct to say the regular U is longer on the bottom side (the outside) and that the upside down U is longer on the top side (still the oustide)... whereas regular U is shorter on the topside (the inside) and upside down U is shorter on the bottomside (again still the inside).

Now look symmetrically at half of the letter at a time and relate that to an upward pointing penis (U) and a downward pointing penis (∩).

It's not logical to say that upside down U (downward pointer) is longer simply because the "correct, bonepressed" measurement is going to be on the outside (already stated longer side) and the correct measurement for regular U (upward pointer) is going to be on the inside (already stated the shorter side)

==

Thoughts? :)

EDIT:

I hate talking about a problem without a solution. My proposed solution to all of this fiasco is just to allow measurements from all sides of the penis to be considered accurate. Maybe an average of top, bottom and side would be the best.

My view is that measuring really doesn't matter much, sure it's a good indicator in forums like this when you want to see who's hung bigger but in the real world, what you pull out of your briefs is what you've got, and no amount of measuring is going to convince some disappointed size queen that you've got more than you really do.

Bore a hole in a piece of plywood and see how much dick you can get through and measure, taking account for the thickness of the plywood of course. Or see how far down the shaft you can press a cockring with a string tied to the top, mark the string at the tip of your dick and measure it after you lose your erection.

Or, after shop/science class is over (joking) just measure the topside and then the bottomside and average the two. This is the accepted Kinsey method for finding the real length, which is then used in conjunction with average girth (measure top, middle, and base and average the three) to find penis volume.

See, math is the answer. Should have paid attention in geometry, huh?

The O.P. is absolutely right on this one. I have found this orthodoxy on penis size measuring a slight annoyance myself, though I understand it's of little actual importance.

Classyron got it right if one wants to be truly correct in measurement. The bias referred to by the O.P. is even visible in "Big Dick" porn. Most of the guys shown have completely lateral erections, and many even have downward pointing erections. When combined with tricky camara angles, these latter-mentioned cocks appear larger than equivalent sized upward, bananna cocks.

Use a soft measuring stick.

And for the huge-huge boys, please, just post with a ruler or tape measure along the top, it stops so much doubting..

Who knows, I have a upward curve and I am kind of thick, so there is a big difference between the top and bottom. If i measure from the top with a ruler I am 8.5", if I measure on top with a tape along the curve I am 9" and if I measure with a tape along the bottom curve I am over 10". So how big am I ? When asked I say 8.5"

Yep, this is the exact way an upward pointer will measure.

I'll probably start going with the shortest size as well, then when it's bigger that is a surprise lol. :biggrin1:

That sounds like your cock doesn't work -- even if it's huge, it sound like you can't actually use it.

That is what I'm concerned about. What does size, large or small, matter if you can't get it off your abs to fuck?

I had a boyfriend who had a totally vertical erection. I called him "spike" as a nickname because it was like an iron spike when hard - it wouldn't bend at all from that upright vertical position. :)

Anyway, I understand your point, if you measure him hard (using traditional methods), his dick was about 5 inches long, but it definitely was more like the size & proportion of 6 inches in reality. The sharp vertical angle seems to cheat one of an inch or so by traditional measurement methods.

The "U" argument was a good one to explain it more mathematical terms.

Mine has an upwards curve too and it does measure significantly longer if I measure from the bottom. Why is that not allowed? My penis does go in all that way up to the balls when I'm having sex...

Well,

I have posted before the correct way to measure is along the top. However, you may have some points to consider. I, also have a penis that points straight up and if I measure from the top of my penis it is 8". If I measure from the side it is 9" and if I measure from the bottom it is 11 inches. So, I know I would never say I am 11". But could I say I have a nine incher? Maybe, I am not sure, so to be 100% safe I say 8". If I said 9 then I still would not really be lying, though correct?. Also, I have gotten different measurements depending on how horny and hard I was. The 8"-9" to 11" is when I am real hard and horny. I have gotten 6.5" when I was not as horny, If I get 6.5" , however, then I look hard but I am not really fully engorged. It can differ sometimes for me. One good way to know you do have a large one is the reaction you get from partners. You have to read into it real good. "Nice!" means average, usually. "Wow!" can mean average or maybe a little more. "Holy shit!" or something of that nature usually means you are large.

The do get equality. When I measure mine topside, I get the "real" number. Most of the time when a woman measures me, it is rock hard and flat against my belly, showing her only the underside. It's not unusual for them to come up with 9 1/2" or more, which is fine with me. Maybe even better than fair.

Yep, this pretty much describes my situation to a T.

And to the person who said that an upward pointing cock doesn't work... take a look at vpasqual's gallery and tell me that thing doesn't work :tongue:
