sarah kay is one of my favorite spoken word artists and her style usually isn't as brazen as such but i really enjoyed this piece on the hypocrisy and contradictions of the US constitution.

YouTube - Akua, Jeanann Verlee & Sarah Kay perform "Constitution"

check it out (they give gay marriage a shout-out) and tell me whatcha think

Artistically it's the equivalent of Mace - Sure it gets your attention, but all you want it to do is stop, now.

Also, I wanted to shoot the man.

i think it's clever for what it is. sarah kay has done lots of work and i think its all brilliant though this is further on the spectrum than she usually goes. she really is a brilliant poet

YouTube - Def Poetry: Sarah Kay

here's another one of her pieces for anyone who cares to watch. i'm a fan of spoken word and definitely a fan of this girl (she's adorable too)

I'm sure she's talented in her field. But it's a genre that for the most part I simply find irritating. Personal choice, no more.

"Does a politician have to shoot someone in the face to go to jail in this country?"

"Oh...wait..."

They had some great material in there.
I liked it for what it was but it's not something I would seek out. For one thing I found the overlapping voices irritating because if there's to be a message delivered you should be able to hear it clearly.

I have a friend who does spoken word performances. I'll pass it on to him.

you made that apparent with your first post. everytime someone posts are you going to respond with letting us know how much you don't like this?? find a thread that better suits your taste if this is "the equivalent of mace" and "this genre irritates you'

You posted the following (my bold):

check it out (they give gay marriage a shout-out) and tell me whatcha think

Now you're complaining that people have done exactly what you asked -told you what they think! So, how does that work - was it code for something?

I posted that I didn't like it. You posted back to me. Saying that it was atypical for her and linked to another piece, presumably so I'd look again and comment. If not why post back in that way, right?

I replied that that while I respected the artist and the genre it's not one I like and that yes, mostly it irritates me. Are you suggesting I'm not entitled to hold or express that view in a public forum, especially in response to a direct request for it?

If you don't want a response, don't ask the question. If you only want positive responses, ask in another forum. And to answer your question, I'll post anywhere and on anything I choose to.

touche, fault me for being sensitive to negativity on this forum. i did ask for feedback and mistook you for one of those people who just go from forum to forum bashing. no hard feelings?? i still like you
