FWIW, I'm inclined to agree with the 100 plus nations who think there ought to be some way to recognize and establish a Palestinian state (as opposed to the 14 or so who oppose it). I would think such a development would pave the way for stability and peace for both Israel and Palestine.

It'd take some degree of compromise and diplomacy on the parts of all concerned.

Compromise...hah...snowball's chance in hell of that, eh?

I agree with the first paragraph provided the Palestinian Authority recognized Israel's right to exist. You either live by the UN or you die by it.

Recognising Palestine is no different from the US and much of the "west" recognising Kosovo. If the countries impacted by declarations of sovereignty, in this case Israel and Serbia, don't acknowledge the independence, it just creates an untenable ongoing stalemate. There are all these quasi-countries out there like Abhazia, South Ossetia, Transdniester which are only recognised by a few other countries. Unless, the vast majority of the UN (not a sub-division like UNESCO) recognise a country as independent, along with the country from which it's leaving, it's all kind of dubious. Palestine won't be a country until Israel allows it to be separate and fully independent....which really in Israels long term interests, they should.
