    Vatican Lists New Sinful Behavior

VATICAN CITY — A Vatican official has listed drugs, pollution, genetic manipulation and social and economic injustices as new areas of sinful behavior.

Sins increasingly manifest themselves as behavior that damages society as a whole, Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti said in an interview published Sunday by the Vatican's daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano.

"While sin used to concern mostly the individual, today it has mainly a social resonance, due to the phenomenon of globalization," said Girotti, who heads the Apostolic Penitentiary, a Vatican body that issues decisions on matters of conscience and grants absolutions.

Catholic teaching distinguishes between lesser venial sins and mortal sins.

Listing the new areas of sinful behavior, Girotti denounced "certain violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments, genetic manipulations."

He also mentioned drugs — which "weaken the mind and obscure intelligence" — pollution, and the widening social and economic differences between the rich and the poor.

Girotti said the Catholic Church continued to be concerned by other sinful acts, including abortion and pedophilia.

He said Church authorities had reacted with "rigorous measures" to child abuse scandals within the clergy, but he also claimed that the issue had been excessively emphasized by the media.

The Vatican wouldn't know a sin, even if snuck into the choir boys dorm and sodamised them all.

Are they still using that Goat Herder's manual they compiled about 2000 years ago as the basis for all their answers?

Would that be the art the Nazis used to pay the Vatican with for safe passage?

The cash the Vatican has is put into that swell clothing the Pope wears. And paying off ex choir boys (and now members of the Church of Satan) to keep their yaps shut.

Sin would be too late, the Cardinals would have been there already. Um, come to think of it, that must constitute a cardinal sin?

The Catholic church has also included excessive wealth as a sin , and this comes from a religious organisation that has its own personal bank (the Vatican Bank)and the worlds largest portfolio in property and land assets.

It seems to me that the list of sins produced by the vatican is actually the vatican priests code of conduct and favoured behaviour book which they accidently issued to the media by mistake.

Child molesting cock sucking orgies drug taking money laundering are all the things the vatican priests love getting up to! Its a list of their top past times!

The vatican did deals with the nazis during the war and issued a statement of regret when hitler died so who are they to preach to anyone.

The vatican should be closed down and converted into a hospital or something useful

hmmmm...pollution is considered sinful behavior but cases of child abuse by the clergy have been over emphasized by the media. I think the Monsignor must have confused the two issues!

Actually DJ, the Vatican itself, is a highly profitable tourist attraction. I'd leave it as a cash cow and open the hospitals somewhere else.

Some very nasty, evil men abused their position of power and did harm - yet another group of misguided people chose to keep that a secret and in doing so also caused harm. This is inexcusable.

But an awful lot of very good, kind, non-judgemental people also carry the same title as these evil ones - men who have given up so much to fulfill the obligations they feel their vocation gives them. Now this does not, by any means, describe every Catholic priest, not even a large minority - but there are more priests like this than there are child molesters and it saddens my heart that people lump these brave and selfless men in with the monsters.

You probably right drifterwood dude I just hate the way the vatican sits in judgement of everyone yet the priests get up to all sorts of tricks!!
And yes I'm sure the vatican tourism makes tons of money but how much of that gets to the poor??
The current pope was a member of the hitler youth so that says it all in my book!!

The real evils are secrecy and hypocrisy. I hope that recent media/legal events have caused them to change policies.

Flocks (sheeple as well as humans) have more protection when doors, windows and accounts are kept wide open for public view.
