Okay, apparently there are some of you who actually believe Freddie said nigger 73 times. He didn't.

Of course he didn't use it 73 times. I just wanted to hear his take on why he was so happy to use it 8 or 9 times in one post, which is something I couldn't and wouldn't do. So far the only explanation has been a selection of popular LPSG smileys. :smile::smile:

And what exactly did quoting Freddie out of context 73 times accomplish?? Wasted a lot of space and you used a very offensive word, it doesn't matter if you are black Dilznick, the word is still offensive and derogatory regardless of who uses it.

I'm reading all of the posts in this thread. I'll weigh in and try not to weigh things down:

In this country, racism = bigotry (prejudice) + the economic clout to carry it out. As a group, Blacks lack the economic power to dominate on any other group. therefore, it is not possible for a Black person to be racist.

Anybody can pre-judge, and people will do that for a variety of psychotic reasons

But being white means you never have to think about it.

It's the ones who "don't think about it" who keep the racist system going. Their turning a blind eye to the very real plight of people of color perpetuates this social disease. They keep themselves fat, dumb, and happy by being fat, dumb, and happy. That's why racism still exists in this country. It will continue until White people wake up. We're the only ones who can really do anything about it.

I understand that some feel that it is OK for black people to call other black people niggers, but not for white people.

But, when I taught school, the only time black kids called other black kids nigger was when they were mad at each other. It was still used offensively. A fight was raging. Both kids were in trouble for fighting. But didn't think they should get into trouble for calling each other nigger as the fists were flying in the fight.

They didn't get away with it. In all my years of teaching, I never heard someone call another person nigger as a term of affection or comradeship. It was alwasys used as an insult whether used by a black person or white person.

Now there were some jokes told that weren't an insult to a particular person, but usually the word nigger in the joke was a "put down" in some way to black people.

So I understand completely where Opera is coming from. Words like nigger, white trash, faggot, whore, bitch, bastard, asshole, jackass. etc were just not allowed in my classroom even as part of a joke. (I know some of those words were used in private, but not in the open.

See Dilz, while you were busy quoting everyone else BUT Freddie, here's what he ACTUALLY said. So you're really that pissed that he failed to put brackets around the word, what are you- the punctuation police?

Freddie has bad eyes and often struggles to see the screen clearly. He has posted to this effect several times, so I personally don't ride him for typos or sparser punctuation. He's also from another generation, so am I. When we were growing up, that word was still in common use. I know YOU'VE grown up in a time when it is not, and that makes me very happy, but for those of us who have heard it thrown around casually, we may not take all the appropriate steps to warn people (especially supposed adults) before they see the word in print. Please point out ONE of those uses that was directed toward an actual person.

However, some commedians have a way of making us laugh at ourselves. Even the parts that we should be ashamed of. As Zora said earlier when any of us use those kinds of words like nigger, white trash etc. we run the risk of offending someone.

It is something we all should keep in mind. We may have the freedom to say it. We also have to accept the consequences of what happens because we said it.

If a group is together, consider who is in the group before you use a word that might be offensive.

In the workplace, school, and situations where it is not just YOUR friends present, take that into consideration. If it is your true close friends, whatever floats your boat as a group in a private situation is no one else's business.

And here he takes ownership of the phenomena. He used a word, explaining how he dealt specifically with THAT WORD and it's relatives, and he still took shit for using the UNHOLY word without bracketing it every time. Sure sounds like you need new hobbies or a bigger blunt. Clearly you know what context means.

But what utterly confounds me is that you'd be so willing to be so blatantly unkind to someone you know wears his feelings on his sleeve. HE GETS IT. He's condemned for his racism. He understands that. But what I don't understand is why you, alex8, since I've experienced it personally don't realize the effect group unkindness has on those who post here regularly. You can go on being glib and elitist in your choice of erudite adjectives to dismiss anyone on this board who doesn't share your "enlightened" view of the world.

Has it ever occured to you that many many people post on this board (I have it in print from several sources) with due seriousness and since I've been on the receiving end of your categorical dismissal I can tell you that it's perceived as simply "salt to the wound". What's the point?? I'd like to see how the "elevated alex" responds if ever he manifests the unpopular opinion on the board. But I notice you never manifest a point of view in any real sense. Do you ever say anything without an overtone of snideness and unkindness? Does it occur to you NOT to post when you do nothing but fan flames that are already fully ablaze? What happened to just sitting back and letting the thing work itself out without the old "alex one-two punch" to keep the venom flowing? For the love of Christ - many have said this thread has served more than what Bronxy initially maintains was her original premise. I agree. But tarring and feathering Webster - and we now have another thread (potentially) which could do more of same - isn't going to accompish anything but making the board look like a bunch of assholes who delight in persecuting people rather than helping those who 'they' deem less evolved to learn by example.

My only offense was that in context I said that I had never heard the word nigger used in my classroom except in a derogatory way by either black or white children. I went on to say that that word along with white trash, bastard, bitch, whore, and a host of words were not allowed in my classroom. It seems my sin was that while it was OK to spell out bastard, bitch and whore, it was not OK to spell out nigger. We have to be like elementary children and say “the N word”.

I am being accused of being a racist. I have never been accused of this in my entire life before now. I used that word in context of a sentence in which I condemned the use of the word nigger to put people down.

Dr. D used it, according to others, seventy three times. I didn’t count them. Seventy three times he put my name by the word nigger. I would read that as if he were calling me a nigger seventy three times.

And this isn’t the first time that I Freddie have shown I am racist here according to the doctor.
