Wow. I didn't read all 50 pages but I've got to say that this makes the recent flame wars on this site look tame. So this is how it was in the old days before LPSG went to the dogs. hmmm...

The old saw "the more things change the more they stay the same" comes to mind.

It even ended with "why don't we all just get along"?

Is that peace pipe still burning? If so pass it over..

Yes, this is how it was, which is why my tongue remains so sore as of late (from being over-bitten).

I didn't say that as an adult I could tolerate this behavior. But why should they hide? Are they afraid of what I'll do when I decide how to respond? .

As an aging person, I can recall when a much larger % of white people were explicitly racist among themselves. A smaller, but very significant %, even in the North, was aggressively racist even in front of Black people. My family, though not perfect re: race, did not join in either sort of thing.

As the civil rights movement progressed, such expressions became socially unacceptable. So, those not converted to a more civilized attitude began to hide their racism, expressing it only covertly or within a tighter circle of associates.

We have a pretty good idea of what some think of Marathon races. They too, are supposed to bring humans of different colours and nationalities together in good spirit. But yes, you will always have the spoilers, no matter what race. For some, it has nothing to do with race, or a race. For some it's an intrusion on belief.
