Ever taken Viagra and had nothing happen in the erection department?

Here's what happened to me and what I need your thoughts about.

For a while the strength of my erection has been variable, so I've been using 25 mg viagra (a 50 mg pill cut in half) often, but not always, when I have sex (and not when I masturbate) - just to make sure all goes "according to plan."

The other night I met up with a fuck buddy who I've known for about a year I think, we've met a number of times (maybe 10?), he's fun, a good time. He said he would have a surprise for me, and on the way over he used the word "we" in a text so I knew before I got there that the surprise was a 3rd person. The 3rd was also fun and a good time, and we were all into each other, and I had a great time, we played for maybe an hour and a half, and I never got an erection. At all.

Which was embarrassing, upsetting, and annoying...to say the least. (I did cum eventually though!)

I'm trying to understand what might have happened.

About 2 hours before I got there I took a GNC Men's Prostate & Virility, which I do many days (not all) and many times before sex (not all). I also had a big coffee from Dunkin Donuts. About 20 minutes before I got there I had my half Viagra (25 mg).

Possible explanations:
-Coffee + Viagra = not so good. But I think this is not the only time I've tried this, and never a problem before.
-GNC pill + Viagra = not so good. But this is not the only time I've tried this, and never a problem before.
-Nervous with the third person. Maybe so, but he was sexy and fun and nice so that should have dissipated quickly.
-Had sex with someone the previous morning (Tues). But, this was the (Wed) evening after - well over 30 hours later - I can't imagine that at age 36 having sex one morning should spoil other sex the next day in the evening.
-Been jerking off too much. But I didn't JO Sunday or Monday, came with my friend Tuesday, so it seems unlikely that excessive JO would be a problem on the Wednesday (even if in the overall scheme of the world I JO a lot, haha).
-I also take Wellbutrin, but I have for a while and this problem has not previously arisen.
-Used Viagra too often, so it's beginning to lose its effect?
-A split Viagra pill loses effectiveness over time?

Any thoughts and comments related to understanding better how 25 mg Viagra might have led to no erection at all are appreciated. Thanks guys.

It is not a good news. I used once Viagra and It worked good . I had sex with my wife two to three times when i take Viagra. She was very happy with me that night.

Allow me to take the easy was out (insofar as advice goes) and suggest that you take all of your legitimate concerns to a physician and get his/her opinion. Whether mental, physical, or some combo thereof, I feel your concerns are deserving of professional advice. However, that's not to impugn the advice that you may yet receive here.

Until that drs meeting occurs, I would keep an activity diary of sorts, detailing how often I masturbated, attempted or had sex, points during processes when the erection was lost or never achieved (when you're used to having one from past experiences, etc). Also detail any odd feelings you have "down there" (pain, odd fullness, discomfort, or even lack of any odd feelings).

You take your car in for oil changes and checkups all the time. Why not your reproductive system now and again?

I used to take 40mgs daily of Zocor before it became generic. The price for a 40mg tablet or a 80mg tablet were the same $3.00ea. I figured I could cut my monthly cost in half if I bought the 80mg tablets and split them in half and taking only half of 80mg tablet each day. My pharmacist said the problem with that is there a no FDA rules that require the active ingredient to be disbursed
evenly thru out the pill. When you split a tablet you may not be getting any/all
of the active ingredient in each dose. Ask you Dr. or Pharmacist.

You betcha.

I still don't fully understand the mechanism by which Viagra is supposed to work; there has to be more to it than just dilation. I've tried it a couple of times with consistent results: no erection, a splitting headache and bluish vision. About as bad an outcome as one might expect, and I have no intention of going that route again.

If Viagra has worked for you in the past, it's doubtless frustrating or at least a concern to get a different result. I reckon it varies a lot with mood, tiredness and things you take it with, which is why your first three ideas seem plausible. I don't know whether men build up a resistance to Viagra, but at least nowadays there are alternatives that work slightly differently.

Remember that Viagra does nothing for libido, so if you're not into it mentally, nothing will happen. I suspect you're getting it a little too often. Spend a week doing anything else (hiking, biking, anything to reduce the inward focus, and keep your hands off your dick), and THEN have your tryst with the Viagra booster. Life should look a bit different.

That's an interesting piece of information. The instructions say nothing about that. The first time I took Viagra, I followed my doctor's Rx perfectly: cut the pill in half, and took one half with a glass of water.

Then I lay down on my bed, closed my eyes, thought about some projects that were due at work, and waited for the magic erection to sprout. I got nothing but a headache.

The second time was a few months later. I took the other half the pill, went into the living room to watch Will & Grace, and by the end of the show I still didn't have an erection. But my head hurt, especially behind my eyes.

At the time I was single and celibate, but the idea of an involuntary erection was intriguing. It never materialized.

Sounds like the OP is at least adding some further stimulation, which is probably helpful. Your suggestions about him approaching it fresh again makes sense.

I found the best results with taking it on an empty stomach. Hit or miss if I had eaten anything before hand. sorta defeated the expectations of a dinner date and romance later.

You still have to have some sort of physical stimulation. You don't take viagra and your dick gets hard all by itself, it doesn't work that way.

Never had the blurred vision or hearing loss thank goodness, I wish I could avoid the stuffy nose though.

The only problem I have with it is it doesn't seem to really kick in for me till the early the next morning, no matter how early in the day I take it. I guess I'm just a morning person.

If you've been taking Viagra all along and it simply didn't work this one time, the likeliest scenarios are:

1) The problem is due to eating, or something you ate in the hours before you took the pill. These drugs are designed to be taken on an empty stomach, and eating will delay or reduce their effectiveness. Worst are fatty foods. This is all explained the the documentation for Viagra.

2) As others have pointed out, Viagra isn't Insta-Boner. All it does is ENABLE you to get an erection IF you are turned on. If you were worried or stressed or nervous about the 3-some, or simply not turned on or into it, that could easily explain why it didn't work.

3) If you're taking off-brand product from an unreliable source, all bets are off. You might check the expiration date on the packet. Offshore Internet pharmacies are famous for shipping product that's expired or nearly so.

4) Like with most drugs, if you're taking Viagra a lot, its efficacy will diminish over time, and you'll have to take more to get the same result. This isn't usually a problem, because most guys aren't taking the stuff constantly. But either way, it wouldn't just abruptly quit working.

5) Although this doesn't appear to be the case, if this is the first time you've used this medication, Viagra and this class of drugs are known to simply not work for a fairly significant fraction of men.

Make sure your diet is right. Eat some foods with a bunch of protein, zinc and potassium. Eggs, oysters, almonds, bananas and plantains are good for your sex drive.
