It sort of depends on the type of video file as to what software to use. Google free [filetype] video repair software. Replace [filetype] with avi, MP4, flv or whatever type it is.

.mp4 Videos with this error message
It says it is ruined or something is wrong with the format. I tried to convert it to other types with no success.

That error can mean three things. File extension not supported, file extension incorrect or bad file. If the video played on your machine before, without issue, then it is doubtful that the file extension isn't supported (unless you removed a video player from your computer). Most video players can sort it out if someone has misnamed the file extension, so it is doubtful that is the problem. More than likely the file has been corrupted in some way. Have you had a drive failure recently? Have you transferred this file multiple times between machines? This can cause corruption, especially if you pull out a flash drive before you should.

I downloaded a .rar file from a webpage and some videos are okay and some are not.

Rar files are not video files. They are compressed, or zipped files. The video might be in the .rar file but you have to uncompressed the files out first, and then play them. If you are trying to upen the .rar file from inside a video player, it won't work.

Oh okay. Some people don't know that. If that is the case, and some play and some don't, that definitely means they are corrupt. It could have happened in the compressing phase, from the original user, or in the download phase. You will never be able to repair them as compressing files scrambles them up a bit and they are not able to go back together in a logical order.

Okay thank you very much. It’s a pity but if there is no solution I will delete those files.

Unless someone else has a solution, I don't think you've got much of a choice. I'm in IT and I've never had any success restoring corrupt compressed files.

Lol. I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I've been down this road before.

I have an other problem with some videos they were made with a screen recording program and if I want to play and fast forward the video crashes. I know that there was a problem with stopping the recording when I recorded the video.

I would recommend getting a free video file converter and converting them to a different file for mat. Pazera has good ones. List of video & audio converters to download for free - Pazera-Software
Also, what program are you using to watch videos?

For recording I’m using: aTube Catcher
For playing I’m using the standard windows player or VLC.

You could also try using movie player classic. It's a little more lightweight than vlc. Home · MPC-HC
I would not use the standard window media player.

May have to download a CODEC package if they are older MPEG or AVI files.

Sometimes I forget the obvious. Yes it could be a codec issue. Thanks 6inch.
