I want to use RealPlayer as my video recorder and player.
I frequently download RealPlayer and find that it works well.
But at some point, anything I record will open up, when time comes to play it, in the FLV Player, which is very inferior.
    How does that switch happen?
And how can I ensure that it doesn't happen in the future?
Right now, I solve the problem by downloading RealPlayer again ... but that gets tiresome.
(I should add that I'm only downloading the free RealPlayer software.)

No idea, rubi, but I hate realplayer because it's always done lame or hurtful things (including the one you've recounted) to my computers.

    GOM player
(can play parts of a vid..that yr currently downloading)
or mediplayerclassic are my favourites Rubi
(geuss theyre good if you just want a player to play..)
but i guess if you want something that does most things Real Player is best.
( i dislike Real as it trys to control my life...hahha)
I think get rid of the FLV player, they seem to be 'a dime a dozen' and you are not able to go into many of them and tell em what ya want them to do/NOT do
    all the best

I haven't used the Real Player in years. Perhaps your license has expired and now it's time to get a new one? There are many free media players and recorders. Go to C.Net download.com.

    just another thought
if your about to play a flv vid...well thats pos why your flv player will take over
..as i DONT think Real Player has anything to do with flv,s
(which 90% of vids seem to come out in now?)
Well' i am talking P..n here Rubi..not the Classics you view..?? haha
my cheap understanding of it all anyway Rubi..ha)
    enz
i see mediaplayerclassic plays flvs as well, as long as you set it in options'

Yeah, forget about them...it was all me! :biggrin1:

    And FYI

If you click the properties of a video file you can change the player it automatically opens with everytime you double click the file.

    Next lesson tomorrow at 10pm.

How is VLC inferior? It will play almost anything, and it can even fix corrupt video files.

I am guessing that VLC is associating your files with itself each time it opens, just as RealPlayer is re-associating itself with those files each time you re-install it. I can imagine that this tug-of-war would get tiresome.

In VLC, go to Tools --> Preferences --> Interface then scroll down until you see the Association Setup button. Uncheck the files that you want RealPlayer to open and then press Save. Re-install RealPlayer one last time and it should do the trick.

PS. VLC can also record. In fact, it can even record anything streamed from your PC or the net (including protected content) and save it in almost any format.

In the "Tools" section of your menu, select "preferences". In the category section, select "media types" and choose "Real Player as my universal player".

You might also have to do the same thing within the other flash program but instead of enabling media types, you will be disabling media types. You'll find the preferences in either the tools section, file or edit areas of the explorer menu inside of the flash program and hunt around for the media types (or extensions) section.

    Thank you. This is thoughtful.
I'll bet you have an IQ of 146.
    BTW, I mean thank you.
I have oddly failed to shake hands with my computer.
    It's ... oh ... 25 years past time.

    Yes.
I would thank Rex for his attention, but FLV is just inferior. We're talking apples and oranges.
