and this is how VICE media sees and reports, not to mention who they associate Trumps utterance with
aaahh well welcome to 2017 .. ha'
Trump’s nuclear weapons tweet “had a certain Kim Jong-un flavor to it”
Both of these articles point out the fact that the US blew a chance for Russia to become a part of Europe including the European Union and maybe even NATO.
Russia could be our friend. The situation in the former Soviet Union is tricky. The Crimea is historically Russian. I suspect that Putin could have done a better job of bring the Crimea into Russia and solved some other issues as well.
It wasn't until I looked closely at a map of Ukraine and realized that the western section is below Moscow and not that many miles south.
Any serious student of history would see that grave consequences could result from Ukraine becoming a part of the European Unino and even more so NATO.
Putin and the West should have negotiated the entire package of problems. Ukraine and Russia could have had agreed to a free trade zone. The western provinces of Ukraine could have been given a bit more autonomy. The US and Russia could have signed a treaty with Ukraine guaranteeing Ukraine's neutrality in foreign affairs much in the way that was done with Austria.
Somehow the Crimea becoming a part of Russia had to be agreed to. Perhaps a ten mile corridor along the edge of the Crimea to a port giving Ukraine access to the sea.
While not all here are professing Christians and some are anti-Christian. Nevertheless, Russia is a European nation and the Russian Orthodox Church is doing well there. There is much more that united Russians with the US and Western Europe than unites us with China.
Russian population is in decline. I remember reading that "somebody's national economy is eight times the size of Russia. I think it was the US. If so, a Cold War arms race could cause another collapse in the Russian government much like the fall of the USSR.
General Dwight D Eisenhower, the five star American General who also served as president said in his farewell address that America needs to watch the industrial-military complex. There are many arms manufacturers here in the US that want an arms race. That means lots of profits for them.
America needs to spend that money on infrastructure. Rebuilding inner cities that are fast becoming no different than the worst slums of India or any other Third World Country.
What good is it to the American people to have all this power when the lives of most Americans suffer economically to build an even larger military.
Our greatest threat is various forms of terrorism where people are willing to commit suicide to succeed in the destruction of parts of America and Europe.
Had those trillions of dollars been spent on making the lives of the people in the Middle East better, then perhaps we wouldn't have ISIS which is Sunni, not Shiite as in Iran.
I fear that the US may collapse under Trump. A war between the white fascists and the rest of America could cause the collapse of government with the army called in to restore order. I hope my fears are unfounded!
Protests can easily turn into a inter city battle against an invasion of white fascists.
For the record I am a WASP. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. My brand of Protestant includes the Episcopal Church a branch of the Anglican Communion, The United Church of Christ, The United Methodist Church, The Presbyterian Church USA, The Disciples of Christ and others and is refereed to as main line Protestants. Many Christians in the US are classified as Evangelical or Holiness.
I have no use for the fascist movement. Too many Americans died in WWII fighting fascism for America to now embrace it.
