Im a new freshman, and I was wondering.

If I watch porn on the campus network, will that get me in trouble? I don't specifically remember reading something that states you couldn't watch porn, but I am kinda worried. I know they monitor tormenting because it is illegal, but since im 18, does that mean im free to watch porn?

But, I guess porn is easy, I can do it on my phone. But I also love to webcam on lpsg and jack off. So, I can't do that on the phone. I guess I will just have to wait for the weekends where I come home.

I know this topic doesn't really fit here, but I didn't know where else to put it.

Thanks for any advice you can give

As far as i know dude..you should be okay with watching porn...When i was freshman i was worried about that too..until i found out just about everybody in my dorm watched porn at some point in the day....just as long as ur not using the library computer i think its ok to use ur own personal computer. College is about freedom, saying doing, acting however you want anyway...so you jacking to some good flixxx to get off... im sure is acceptable.

A couple of years ago some asshole legislator tried to make a stink because some students at the University of Washington at Seattle were making porn in one of the dorms using the very recognizable lobby for the intro scenes. The university administration, in a remarkable show of spine, said that what students did in their rooms was their business. Part of the irony of all this is that the UW students have had a cottage industry making porn since the early 1970s.

depends on the school you go to. when i was at a public school they told us that you could watch porn in the library, but if someone told you that it bothered them, you would have to turn it off and respect others. so it was all good in the dorms.

while at a private school its in their handbook, find an online copy and do a search for "porn". they say its against policy and grounds for punishment.

When I was in grad school I seem to remember a statistic that about 90% of the school's bandwidth was porn streaming into the dorm rooms. Any school that expelled people for looking at porn would quickly become an all-women college.

When I was a freshmen I watched it ALL THE TIME on the school wifi without a single incident. My only thing would be as long as your of age, which I believe you said you were, then you should be good to go.

"Tormenting" is torrenting btw.

Also, you're fine for watching porn in your room. It would be a total invasion of privacy if they prevented you from doing that. I went to a Catholic university that wouldn't even allow the opposite gender to be on your floor after a certain time but even they didn't monitor your internet usage like that. They only looked for illegal downloads and copyright infringement (though it was only if they received a complaint from the RIAA).

Interesting to me that this is so widespread. That in itself isn't surprising; what's interesting is the assumption and the experience that all college guys are watching porn, which I'm sure is true. What I'm getting at is that those of use who were in college in late 70's- early-80's ( and before) had not internet porn, obviously, so it's intriguing to think how things might have gone. I simply had to rely on fantasies about guys in the locker room as well as some discreet trips to the big city to buy porn magazines. yup; they still made them then.

Funny how things have changed. When I was in college in the 80s, the only porn I watched was on VHS tapes that my fraternity's "Vice President of Porn" rented from video stores and showed in my fraternity's rec room once or twice a month. No, there were no group jerk-off sessions (at least ones that I ever heard about). But, I would sneak down and pop the tapes in at off hours and squeeze in a wank, and some of my friends admitted doing the same. If it weren't for that, I don't think I would have had the opportunity to watch any porn at all. Now, in a single evening online, I can probably see more porn than I probably saw in a whole year in college.

I have no idea whether university honor codes (or internet usage policies) prohibit use of university internet systems for porn watching. But, whatever you do - do NOT do it at work. I know of at least 2 people at my company - people with big, six figure jobs, who were fired for looking at porn. And I know of others, before the company started blocking "inappropriate websites" with software, who got caught and had to have excruciatingly embarassaing conversations with HR and supervisors.

Wow, this. In the same era a buddy of mine at college rented a VCR and a porn tape (well, he rented some other movies, too) and had "showings" in his room, lol. It was the first hard core porn I had ever seen, and I think I shot a load in my pants, There was no group jerk-off or anything with the others that were watching it at the same time, just nervous laughing and poking fun at the set-up scenarios in the flick that would lead to the banging.

This x 3. I've known of folks fired for just looking at their personal email at work.

LOL - we did that as well and would even repeat the lines of cheesy dialogue back to each other for days afterwards, like you would if you watched an Eddie Murphy movie or Caddyshack, etc. (Man, I am getting old!) Today, does porn even have dialgoue? :biggrin1:

It depends on what school ur at and if they have a rule against it. even if they do, depends on how strictly they enforce it. I used to all the time lol. it was practically my substitute for television !

I doubt that they would go through the trouble. If by tormenting you meant torrenting then that's much easier for them detect because all they have to do is look for large amounts of p2p connections. Torrenting has also been getting more attention because a lot of people are using it to illegally download free movies, music, etc. so that might also be why they monitor it. Porn on the other hand, don't think so.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.. about watching porn or webcaming on your own personal computer that is connected to the campus network in the dorms/etc..

I wouldn't do it in the computer labs but that should just be common sense and out of respect for other students.

I know i would have died if I couldn't of looked at porn in college.. as that is an important way in learning about your own sexuality

I had the same problem. I just moved into my dorms. There's two servers to use, one run by the campus and one by a mall nearby. The one on the campus I've used to look at porn even though they try to block it... Haven't gotten in trouble yet. Then for the mall I still haven't had any problems.
