Feel free to mourn as you will.

The moneygrasper died of "complications of pneumonia" at 91.

For those who don't know, Roberts was a homophobic prick of a televangelist* who founded his own university for bigotry and irrational studies. A few times he'd retreat to the tower he built there and warn his flock that, "God will call him home," if they didn't give money to him.

*My comments regarding Roberts in no way reflect my feeling about Christians or the Christian faith in general. I confine them to this dangerous wingnut and his sadly deluded followers.

Mr. Roberts is probably feeling a little warm right now.

Or, if you prefer to believe in Karma, he's probably mating with a black widow spider right about now.

or, he is simply being embalmed at the moment, and the electrical impulses that animated his body are simply off for good.

    and nothing else.

My dad was a minister and always shook his head upon viewing an Oral Roberts prime time special. Not in disdain or judgement but because as he put it: "There is no God in any of these women dancing around on stage in clothing that exposes their belly buttons".
At one point Roberts claimed to have had a vision of God some 20 stories high or so (I have blocked it out) and in that vision God told him to build his university.

My parents were also friends with the Swaggart family when we lived in Baton Rouge when the news broke that Jimmy was messing around with that whore in the motel, my dad shook his head in the same manner. It was never a good sign.

All of their theatrics, drama and naughty behavior takes away from the message they claim to have been "called" to preach about, except when the money starts rolling in. That's when the green eyed serpent strikes, greed.

My dad used to say: "He has gotten way to big for his britches!"

When Buddy Hagen died, the funeral was held at Rhema Bible College in Tulsa. I was the only security driver out of all the limousine drivers there. The whole funeral was a circus of too many chiefs, and not enough Indians. Another driver and I realized we needed to find the main coordinator so we could maintain our professionalism. We found the main lady coordinator and made good friends with her. So the coordinator puts the celebrities in my car.

For 2 hours straight, I had:
Creflo and Taffi Dollar. (Taffi was HAWT!!)
    Dave and Joyce Meyer.
Richard and Lindsey Roberts. (Oral Roberts' son and daughter-in-law)

Ok. So I have 6 famous televangelists in my car which made me a captive audience to them for two hours. Joyce asked to borrow my cell phone to make a few calls.

Now you would THINK that with me being a captive audience, that they would take that opportunity to witness to me. (not that I needed it, but they never even asked that)
Not one did. Ever. Hmmmm....................aren't they supposed to be all about saving souls no matter what?

What I thought was really amusing is, you know how you see Richard and Oral on TV, and how they have this certain "look" and mannerisms? (I call it the televangelist look)
When I first met Richard, he hit me with that and it didn't phase me a bit. It took him about 30 minutes to figure out that I really didn't care who he was or who he thought he was and didn't want anything from him. When he realized that, the "look" and mannerisms just vanished. It was like he was you, me, anybody else, would be, relaxed around good friends. And it was almost like I was his "new best friend". (like I needed another one)

When we got to the cemetery, and we were waiting for the others and Richard was pretty cool. Until a woman walked up to him and wanted to talk to him. Then it was like a night/day difference. The "televangelist look" instantly came back. It was cool to watch. I"m thinking to myself "just HOW in the heck does he do that??"

    Anywhoo...........................
I hate to hear that anyone passed away and my condolences go out to his family anyway.

They won't you know. Hatred runs too deep once it takes root.

Remember this one- and the disgraceful first post, which set the ball rolling?:

    http://www.lpsg.org/49932-jerry-falwell-dies.html

nor should we forget this one:

http://www.lpsg.org/14837-ronald-reagan-has-died.html -post #6 by Prepstudinsc, says it best: (bolded parts which I find relevant to all deaths)
People are unable to let go and let a family grieve in peace. Oral Roberts gave an Aunt of mine a great deal of peace and serenity through his words and the words of The Lord. She was able to cope with the drowning death of her son and other tragic events because this man, among others, gave her guidance towards something to believe in. Oral Robers, gave solace and guidance to many and not all adhered to all of his preachings- my Aunt for instance, had nothing against homosexuals, seeing them as people made by God and therefore equal to all others.

Oral Roberts has died, let him rest for a respectable time, then, as prepstudinsc said, debate the positive and negatives of the man. Carrying on in the way that many of you do and currently are, is as low and disgusting as the images of people rejoicing and dancing in the streets and fields after the attacks of September 11,2001. Neither behavioral pattern shows anything I'd care to associate with.

No. "Let it go," is not what the man deserves. He chose to lead a public life in the spotlight, he chose to spew his hatred in the guise of love all over the airwaves and via the brainwashing of young people through a university he founded. He used his charisma and talent for organizing to do things I think Jesus would literally have cried over. He gave us no quarter in his 70+ years of preaching, why should we do the same for him? He was a reprehensible person who continually used the power of media to give himself a public forum to preach hatred, intolerance, and beg for money under the alleged threat of death by God (can you imagine someone saying, "God will kill me if you don't send me money??") and somehow a person who does that is deserving of some modicum of respect? Oral Roberts earned no respect from me in life so I feel no need to show him any in death. Were I a Christian I would be mortified at what Roberts has done to the gospel of Jesus. That I am gay gives me more than enough reason to be delighted that he's finally silenced though I'm certain he'll be around in re-runs long after I'm gone.
