O.k. So I'm washing clothes and a pair of underwear dosen't make it from the washer to the drier. Upon coming home from work, my mother tells me that she and my father have debated the origins of the underwear. She claims that after a short argument apon my trying out different styles of underwear trying to find a good fit my dad responds with "If those are his than it's about time we sit down and have a talk with him"

    What the fuck?

Since when did underwear instantly bear the brandishing of the "talk". Hell, I'm 21, 22 in a month, yet because he found som soggy underwear suddenly there is a problem? I just don't understand it. I've never been uniform so I'm at a loss.

I'm 27 and my father still often says idiotic things as if I'm 8. Responding to curse words in the music I listen to, nudity in movies that we're watching together, me drinking a single Smirnoff at a party, etc...

Hi Bryan, do you think perhaps your parents have been waiting for a while to approach you on the topic and just used the underwear as an excuse or means to ask you?

oh, was that the issue? He thought your underwear was too small or "sexy"? That is a little goofy... but my father has said many similarly strange, stupid, prejudiced or confounding things. Actually, he has commented on some of my underwear before... some of the silk boxers I wear.

I don't think I've ever given either of my parents any reason to believe I was gay, as I've always been very openly fond of girls from a very very young age. I do kind of wonder what would happen if I were gay and had to come out, as my father is pretty conservative. I assume he'd get over it but I don't know.

Yah, I thought it was something wrong with the underwear, or the fact that he noticed how stretched out they were due to a large penis..and they were giving you the "with great penis, comes great responsibilty" chat.

LOL, good one, and great timing I give you a 9.5 out of 10:biggrin1: . Seriously though I have done nothing to spark a talk about sexuality. I don't have a lisp, I don't use my wrist when I talk, I don't use all five fingers and a wave to point at one item, I don't swish when I walk, I don't partake in gay talk (off the internet). Plus I'm the one everyone goes to to fix, repair, sqish, swat, or de-clog something when I'm around. It just dosen't make sense as to why I can't feel comfortable while doing that.

Didn't you say you were the product of Two hippie parents? Both very open? Or was that someone else:biggrin1:

If I am correct though, maybe they are just really open minded, and thought they would check in with their son.

My step father isn't one of those parents. My mom totaly understands my wanting to explore a little as long as I don't go to radical with it. I told her I was trying different underwear trying to find what feels comfortable, but I'm not about to get in it with my dad. He just dosen't get it.

Yeah, it's a sad commentary on how far the men in this country still have to go.

Tough call, isn't it, Bryan? Between being who we are comfortable being, gently educating those who don't "get" it, and saving ourselves the hassle of making our parents (or friends or whomever) get all "concerned." Since I'm the primary caregiver for my elderly parents, I face that sort of dilemma on a regular basis. My father gets bent out of shape when anyone does anything that can be interpreted as "work" on Sunday, so I find myself torn between "Do I go ahead and do the mowing today or do I wait and spare him the irritation and worry and upset?"

If it doesn't make life TOO tough for you, though, I'd say stick with the underwear you LIKE. I think you'll find yourself happier and more confident for it.

If everyone who doesn't wear boxers in America is gay, then probably about 90% of men are gay. I don't actually know anyone who wears boxers on a regular basis (for day-wear).

And Sears is defiinitly catering to the gay market, 'cause they carry a whole lot of non-boxer underwear. And most of their boxers are rather, um, loud.

It definately makes you wonder about the boxer wearers. I could blkame so many influences that spawn this sort of thing from either side but it dosen't change anything. I willl continue to buy differen't styles, brands ant so on until I find some resonbly priced, and fitting underwear and I don't care what "daddy" thinks. He dosen't have to wear them, nor is he trying to find comfort so if ever confronted I'll use that to stand him down.

has it crossed your mind that maybe at 21 years of age you probably shouldn't be living with your parents anyways?

If only it was as simple as this. I think the crack in the facade of my sexuality became more visible with the discovery of a mystery pair of briefs. They already had ideas. Who we are comes right through our pores no matter how butch we are. Sexuality isn't about that anyway. The older I get, the more I realise how transparent I am to my family.

Amen to that one. Lots of queer men are butch and lots are nelly. It takes all kinds and the "classic" signs are not always there, even though some signs probably are (to those who choose to see them).

I agree with Matthew Bryan that your underwear is none of their business. At the same time, this may be the only way they can broach the subjects of sexuality, relationships, etc. with you.

My dad found some rather sexy undies of mine while he was dropping me off at college. He and his buddy laughed it off and I was mortified. He never spoke a word of it.

I wonder if he will think back on that once I tell him what the deal is?

    Ah, hindsight...

O.k. I still don't consider myself gay even if after my few encounters, but they were just briefs. It would be different if it were a thong or something risque but they were just regular gray briefs, and by hanes on top of it.

In response about the 21 crack I live in over inflated California where electricity is double the national standard and gas is triple. Plus because I live in So Cal housing is rediculous. It runs about half a million for a two bedroom home, and can cost upwards of 1000 a month for an apartment. The sooner I can get financialy situated the sooner I won't have to deal with this crap any longer.

I fucking HATE boxers personally though they're ok enough on my b/f. If I wear them in two days my balls ache.

    I'm with you PenisAv.
