While I don't commend the Tebows for their political ad financed by "private backers" of Focus on the Family, I do support their right to air the spot where ever and when ever they want. Their freedom of speech is just as important as mine.

What bothers me about all of this is that these religious zealots have enough money to actually buy a Super Bowl ad. When are liberal groups going to get smart enough when it comes to fighting fire with fire? We allow these groups to run us down all the time. It's high time liberal organizations grew a pair and started redefining moral values: humanism, acceptance, choice, "live and let live." Until we reclaim values and separate them from religious dogma, these silly arguments will never end. As long as we continue to give religious organizations legitimization through tax status and mamby-pamby allowances because "their opinions are valid too," then we shouldn't bitch when they continue to take advantage of the system to broadcast their immoral and outrageous messages that only aim to divide and discriminate.

What a load of crap......It is clear discrimination when the network excepts an ad from Focus on the Family whose mission, among other things, is to make sure no same sex couples get married and yet CBS REFUSES to air an ad from the Untied Church of Christ that celebrates their INCLUSIVE policies regarding the LGBT community. You'd be wise to stay OUT OF the LGBT political movement because you don't have a flying fuck of which you speak.

You don't get to tell me what issue I can discuss Indy.

The ad CBS accepted is a celebration of life story and the life story of a star quarterback. Their decision to accept it during the superbowl makes sense.

If you have a problem with CBS not accepting the ad from the United Church of Christ, that is a separate issue with CBS. The ad we are talking about is about a celebration of Life - not the LGBT political movement.

While I don't commend the Tebows for their political ad financed by "private backers" of Focus on the Family,

Pam and Tim Tebow were asked by Focus on the Family if they could tell their story in an ad. It really isn't a "private backer" situation because it is an ad by Focus on the Family.

I do support their right to air the spot where ever and when ever they want. Their freedom of speech is just as important as mine.

Exactly.

What bothers me about all of this is that these religious zealots have enough money to actually buy a Super Bowl ad. This ad has nothing to do with "running anyone down all the time" or "immoral or outrageous messages to divide or discriminate." This ad is about a celebration of life.

Isn't the spot also anti-gay?

No, it isn't.

Fuck up the Family only cares about some families and they actively try to break up mine, so I really don't care what they have to say, super bowl or otherwise.

If CBS chooses to endorse this group by running their messages on their network, I guess we know where they stand too.

You don't have to care about what Focus on the Family has to say. Many people do and they have a right to say it superbowl or otherwise.

Many Americans support CBS for running the celebration of life ad.

And many people DO NOT support CBS for refusing to run a pro lgbt ad by the United Church of Christ. It's called Hypocrisy Trinity.

It is in NO WAY a "Celebrate Life" ad. It is a plain and simple POLITICAL ad placed by Focus on the Family, a "Christian" organization that has an ACTIVE political agenda:
"We believe that God has ordained the social institutions of family, church, and government for the benefit of mankind and as a reflection of His divine nature. Therefore, Christians are called to support these institutions, according to God's design and purpose, and to protect them against destructive social influences."

I don't need or want their fucking protection. And BTW, trinity, I don't think that Focus on the Family would approve of you spending your free time on a BIG DICK website.

It's not hypocracy if they don't endorse a pro lgbt ad. they are entitled to endorse whatever suits their programing.

So, if they don't endorse Jews or the State of Israel that's OK too?

Remember kids, the USA is a "christian" nation and all other faiths and political beliefs that do not goose step to "our" christian nation is welcome -- in fact encouraged -- to leave. And you all be sure to have a nice and special day, now.

frankly, i loathe the Tebows.

the am having a great time watching him look absolutely atrocious at the Senior Bowl this week, and his draft stock is plummeting.

he is nothing more than the collegiate football face of religious facism.

the bullshit about how they are just "celebrating life" is ridiculous...so what he is saying is that woman, with an unwanted pregnancy, and in dangerous health, should go against her doctor's medical advice, and risk her life, because that child might grow up to be a quarterback?

how fucking selfish can these people be?

the *DIFFERENCE* was that the Tebow's *PLANNED* and wanted to have him...so going against medical advice was a much easier choice for them...

but for an unwed mother, who did not plan it, or was raped, and is in danger of losing her life, the Tebow's believe she should think how lucky she is because her kid could grow up to be a virginal college quarterback who got an 890 on his SAT, and can't go through his passing reads and progressions properly or make the deep throws.

perfect.

The FCC may not agree with you.
Well, that really depends on who owns the FCC, doesn't it? Hey, maybe we should run this one by the 5 Supremes and ask them what they think.

I don't need or want their fucking protection. And BTW, trinity, I don't think that Focus on the Family would approve of you spending your free time on a BIG DICK website.
Now really Indy, would it surprise you to find FoF members in our little corner of the cyberverse? How many of y'all are here anyway? A show of hands please. BTW: I actually have firsthand knowledge of James Dobson from back in the days when he was getting this little enterprise up and running. I could tell you some tales . . . . . that's all I'm sayin (for now). Hey Jimmy, whassup? Just to clarify, if you're thinking I literally have "firsthand" knowledge, all I can say is, "Ewww!!!"

wow, so the reagan reign didn't bring any sun into your life?
And let's not forget those halcyon days with Shrub I and especially Shrub II. Ah, good times.

CBS has rejected a gay dating site's Super Bowl ad and now Mancrunch.com wants a bite out of the network.
CNBC.com reporter Darren Rovell tweeted earlier Friday that CBS would not be airing ManCrunch.com's 'Playing for the Same Team' ad during the NFL game next week, FOXNews.com reports.
"Mancrunch.com has just received a formal rejection of its ad from CBS," Rovell wrote on Twitter.
In the ad two sports fans are watching an NFL game and discover their mutual affection over a bowl of chips. They proceed to make out to the surprise of another sports fan watching nearby.
The official rejection letter from CBS offered a vague explanation for its refusal to run the ad.
“CBS Standards and Practices has reviewed your proposed Super Bowl ad and concluded that the creative is not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday,” it stated. “Moreover, our Sales Department has had difficulty verifying your organization’s credit status.”
Earlier this week, CBS said it would only allow advocacy ads that were "responsibly produced."
The announcement came after quarterback Tim Tebow's thinly veiled pro-life ad for Focus on the Family, a Christian group, was given a Super Bowl spot.
ManCrunch.com cited Tebow's ad as a good example for why they should not have been denied air time.
“We are very disappointed that in 2010 such discrimination is happening especially given the fact that Focus on the Family is allowed to promote their way of life during the Super Bowl,” a rep for the site told FOXNews.com.
ManCrunch.com says it's asking same-sex advocacy groups to petition CBS to protest the decision.
They will join women's groups who are currently fighting against the airing of Tebow's "advocacy ad," which the groups say is inappropriate for Super Sunday.

Just saying...

This $2.5M ad doesn't stop any abortions, it is wasted money.

If FoF ready wanted to stop abortions, they would have used that $2.5M to pay women not to have abortions.

The ad isn't about celebrating life nor preventing abortions, it's about marketing and making some people feel good.

They'll soon realize it as it gets closer to game time. Or not, lose the $2.5M and look like fools. I'm sure they didn't think about the actual audience that watches the Super Bowl. Trying to send a political message during the Super Bowl is like watching someone trying to pass out abstinence pamphlets in the middle of an orgy.

Yep... mental masturbation for people with a lot of people to burn, who can feel excessive pride in themselves knowing they hijacked a show with a huge audience with their political nonsense. Nothing more, nothing less. The fact that CBS fell for this nonsense is rather shameful.

There's more to this ad than what you see on the surface. It appears that Pam Tebow didn't have a choice because in the Philippines, where she was living, abortion is illegal. The only reason she may have had a "choice" (to do something illegal in terminating her pregnancy) is because she was white, (relatively) rich and privileged over there - which is what tends to happen when you criminalize abortions - rich women still have a "choice" and poor women don't. So that's why the ad is wrong - because it's deceitful.
