I think the O.P.'s statement is really referring to the remarks given for the cheap "tightie whities" style briefs. You know, the ones bought at discount stores in a 5-pack for under $10. Most mothers buy this style for their little boys, and many older men wear them too. Today, they basically say, "I don't care" about my appearance or comfort. Surprisingly, some of the men that say that they purchase clothing for comfort first wear those infernal things! They not only look bad, but must be the most undcomfortable style underwear ever designed....I can see why boxers are so popular. After boys grow up in those briefs, they want some relief! The thing is, better designed briefs, like pouch briefs, and the European style "bikini" briefs fit so much better and are rather comfortable

I think its actually more manly and ' male' to wear briefs or boxer briefs since it shows you are at ease enough with your own body that you dont care if people see everything displayed all out there for all to see even if its covered in a fashion that is supposed to be more modest. Kind of like the same deal with speedos.

A lot of guys don't have that kind of security in themselves. I myself, sometimes feel awkward when I'd go to the bathroom in nothing but my briefs and when I come out, run into my roommate.

I can see how some people would relate Briefs with Immaturity, because when most people think of briefs. People think of Tighty Whities. But as adults, we all know there are many different types of briefs for men. Calvin Klien, Andrew Christians, and more.

At the same time, no one really cares what kind of brand name boxers a guy would wear. As long as there is no goofy design on them.

I truly do not understand this statement. Why would you feel awkward?

If it is because you are concerned about someone else's opinion, it is their immaturity which is the problem, and your own lack of self confidence. Neither links the actual wearing of briefs to immaturity.

So long as it holds me in and supports me, I don't care what brand or color or style my underwear is. It is functional. It is also invisible, being worn *under* my other clothing, so its appearance is mostly irrelevant.

If, instead, you're wearing it for someone else, that's a different story.

But I still say that linking briefs to immaturity shows only the immaturity and the lack of self confidence of the person trying to establish the link.

I've worn briefs all my life and loved them; the snuggness and comfort of them. Plus they just kept the boys in check. Since I got my PA however I started going commando or wearing loose boxers because of the feeling of the PA when it rubs against the material. Now, that said, I show a hell of lot more wearing boxers than wearing briefs. A young friend of mine (OF AGE MR MODERATOR) wears boxers and he's always showing. I've never seen him naked but damn he shows well and I'm betting he knows it. Of course, I doubt he could wear briefs because his peers would call him gay! That's the big stigma in society if it's deemed gay then don't do it. I still love my briefs and wear them under suits but for jeans or shorts, I go with boxers or nothing now.

More along the lines of making my roommate uncomfortable. Sometimes, I can have a pretty big bulge showing in my underwear, and that really be uncomfortable for a lot of guys. Fortunately, I asked my roommate if it made him uncomfortable and he said it was cool, and "that I don't have anything he's never seen before."

I find briefs hot on certain guys. But on others boxer or boxer briefs are sexier. It all depends on body type in my opinion. But if you are thin/muscular and in your 20s briefs are amazingly hot. I can hear the seering of a grill now. Yum.

Another source of bad press is the media. I noticed from movies starting in the early nineties that anytime there was a scrawny, nerdy kid in some embarrassing situation. For instance: being caught with his pants down...while attempting to play sports, or caught with his pants down... in front of people in at a party, or caught with his pants down...in the locker room - who would be laughed at and mocked by everyone present. I'm sure there are earlier examples, but I think it was around that time that they started to get a bad reputation.

By the time I was in 8th grade, I was taken aside in my Catholic school and told that I had to wear briefs for modesty (I was very large even then). I was hurt, asked my dad about it, and he laughed and laughed and laughed. Mom bought the briefs, and I liked them and as an adult male still wear them because they give great support. Being hung is something I never took credit for, it was not my own achievement. I have turned over on it, I have sat on it, I wince when it hits the water in smaller-sized toilets, but more importantly, I got turned down sexually for being built this way and have been stopped during attempts at sex because of my size. But it is mine and I am happy with it.
If she says briefs are immature, tell her she looks fat in that outfit.

Ha! Love that last line.
Wait, tho. I don't get how wearing briefs was for modesty's sake. What were you wearing before you were told this? Boxers? How are briefs more modest? Can't see the outline of your cock in your trouser leg?
Seems very odd.. but then again, it WAS Catholic school!
