I'm seriously considering buying a kilt myself, but am worried that it is supposed to be only for scotsman or those of scottish heritage to wear as such. Do scottish people get offended if a non scottish or those of non scottish descent wear a kilt ?

Of course we wouldn't mind an Australian wearing a kilt. Especially if he's hot (actually then it's encouraged). As long as you get something that suits you. I'm sure if you dig back far enough you'll be able to find some Scottish ancestry, but it's not a must.
I do have to admit though that i do get pissed off when i see a guy in a kilt and hear an English accent. I don't know why, even when it's my friends from Uni, who now live in Scotland, and i know are really nice people, but whenever i see them in it i just think it's wrong. I suppose some national tesions are just far too deep rooted.
But i'm sure you'll be fine

Is there a reason WHY seeing an english person in a kilt pisses you off so much ? I know the old 'scots hate the english' stereotype is still around a bit, so is that the case ?
And thanks for the encouragement GMan. I just hope I'd be able to do the kilt as much justice as you have :biggrin1:

Haven't tried wearing a Kilt till now, and although Scots wear them fully naked i'd use tan tights as those are my favourite stuff. Tan colour woudn't cause much trouble and if the Kilt gets lifted by a curious lady, she'll get these surprise i dare once to make true.

I don't hate the English, but it's just that it's a very scottish thing to wear a kilt, and you hear so many English people slag off the kilt. Then they wear them. It's not like i get really pissed off or anything, but i just think it look wrong, like seeing old people wearing yung peoples clothes. 40year old women shouldn't be wearing belly shirts, and englishmen shouldn't be wearing kilts. On the other hand, i do encourage me english friends from uni to try the kilt at the faculty ball, but i still think it's always a bit wrong.

Go on WellHung, get a kilt.

Did anyone see David Tennant (the new Doctor Who) in the "I Would Roll 500 Miles" Comic relief video. He was looking very hot in his kilt. Here's a pic (not fromt he video)

I just find a bloke in a kilt extrememly sexy and alluring, like a bloke in work boots and those really short hark yakka shorts that many tradesmen used to wear in the eighties and early nineties.
Of coarse, thanks to homophobia and over reactive 'straightness' in the work place, most blokes wear board shorts or jeans on construction sites now.
Damn it !

I have been in Lyon, and with the rugby world cup playing a match in nearby Saint-Etienne with Scotland playing, there were more kilts per square kilometer than I have ever seen. Much more variety than I thought : those which are so long that there is not even much of the knee to see with those long socks, though others let you see a bit more. All though seem to have meters of cloth.

I was taking a leak in a restaurant where some of the Scots had been drinking and I found myself next to a very tall one - taller than I am, and in those circumstances I'm always interested in comparing - just to see if everything is in proportion. What surprised me though was all the cloth that had to be pushed aside for the man to take a piss - so much cloth that I wasn't able to see if it was true that nothing is worn under the kilt.

A question for the Scots ? Is there an accepted way to take a piss while wearing a kilt ?
